WE ARE ABLE TO HOST THE GAMES We have, however, more than a desire to host the Olympics - we have built a strong capacity to deliver a Games of unparalleled technical excellence. Athens is able to host the 2004 Olympics. Our political system, our infrastructure, our environmental program, our telecommunications networks, our sporting facilities and plans all guarantee a successful Games, should the members of the IOC give us the honour. First, Greece is a stable Parliamentary Democracy - our National Elections guarantee the continuation of the government. We have been a member of the European Union since 1981. Our economy is developing in line with the instructions of the EU, in order to meet the Maastricht Treaty requirements.
