NEW NOCTURNAL APPEARANCE FOR THE PANATHINAIC STADIUM

The Panathinaic marble stadium, where the first modern Olympics Games of 1896 took place, has been provided with a new nocturnal appearance.

The revamping of the panathinaic stadium has been done through a programm of the Ministry of Ecology and public works that include the Academy, the Parliament and Zappeion building.

The Panathinaic stadium, build in 1895, has a capacity of 69.000 and will host the opening ceremony of the 1997 Track and Field World Championship on the 1st of August.

Zappeion, another athenian landmark, hosts, among others, the Athens 2004 Bid Committe.
