The Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Christos Rokofyllos at the WEU Ministerial Council (Luxemburg, 22-23 November 1999)

The Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Christos Rokofyllos, attended the session of the Western European Union’s Ministerial Council, that took place in Luxemburg on November 22-23, 1999. Among the issues of European Security and Defense discussed by the Ministers of the WEU member-States were the means and capabilities for crisis management, the conclusions drawn from the crises in former Yugoslavia and other isuues of international interest.

In his intervention, Mr. Rokofyllos stressed Greece’s steady commitment to the realisation of the decisions adopted by the Cologne European Council, concerning the development of European Security and Defense in the field of crisis management.

The session closed with tthe adoption by the Council of the Luxemburg Declaration on European Security and Defense that includes, inter alia, a reference to the continuing dialogue between Cyprus and the Western European Union.

On Wednesday, November 24, the Alternate Foreign Minister met in Brussels with the Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union, Mr. Javier Solana.
