Greece, the Middle East and the Mediterranean area

Greece traditionally has had close cultural, economic, and political ties with the Middle East and the Mediterranean Countries.

These ties will be further developed when the Middle East crisis is finally resolved, an goal for which the Greek government has always been working.

With regards to the Middle East peace process,

• We are convinced that, for the peoples of the region, there is no choice other than the continuation of the Peace Process on the basis of the principle "land for peace".

• We look forward to a timely implementation of the Agreements.

• We believe that the outcome of the Israeli elections should not influence the negotiations for the final status of the Palestinian Territories.

• We are in favor of a more active involvement of the E.U. in the Peace Process. This involvement should not be limited to the economic sector, but also include the political dimension.
