STATEMENT  BY  THE   CENTRAL  BOARD  OF  JEWISH  COMMUNITIES  OF  GREECE

“The Central Board of Jewish Communities of Greece in a communique released in January 1998, stated by the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the hypocrisy of the Greeks, and their participation in the persecution of the Jews during the Second World War does not correspond to reality.

Greek Jewry, during the more than fifty years that have elapsed from World War II, has incessantly proclaimed, both nationally and internationally, of the positive stance of the Christian population of Greece as well as the official institution in the protection and salvation of their Jewish compatriots during the violent Nazi persecutions. A special mention should be made for the stance of the Greek Orthodox Church.”
