MAIN OPPOSITION LEADER ZAPS BACK AT PREMIER'S CRITICISM AT ZAPPEION

Main opposition leader, New Democracy's Miltiades Evert countered the criticism of Prime Minister Kostas Simitis today and juxtaposed the government's national policies one by one.

"Either he cannot understand our proposals and as such does not conveve the political leaders council, or Mr. Simitis is committed to other countries," Mr. Evert commented, pointing to the Government's handling of the Imia crisis and the FYROM name issue.

Mr. Evert also referred to the necessity of an inter-Balkan cooperation and proposed that a permanent Under-secretary of Foreign Affairs be appointed. When asked if his party will challenge the inerim agreement regarding FYROM, Mr. Evert stated that this agreement has been ratified and as such Greece cannot refute international accords.
