Church of Aghios Demetrios
Restored in 1948 after having been destroyed by the great fire of 1918, in conformation with its original plan as a five-aisled christian basilica. The church was built for the first time on the ruins of a roman bath. Under the sanctuary and the transept there is the crypt of Aghios Demetrios. Located at Aghiou Demetriou street. ( 270008)

Church of Aghia Sofia
An 8th century building, a christian church with a cross-in-square nucleus, which is covered with a dome. Superb mosaics dated to the 8th-12th century, and wall paintings of the 11th century. Located at Aghia Sofia square. ( 270253)

The Acheiropoietos
It a large Christian church, a three aisled basilica, built during the middle of the 5th century on the remaining of a Roman bath. There are mosaics inside dated to the 5th century, and wall paintings dated to the 13th century also. Located at

Church of Panaghia Chalkeon
A cross-in-square church, built in 1028, with wall paintings dated to the 11th and 14th century A.D. There is also beautiful ceramic ornamentation. Located at Egnatia street. ( 272910)
