Hellenic Merchant fleet ranks first among European Union Members-States conferring about 50% of total Union fleet and offering leading positioning international organisations, while at the same time is used as a strong argument for the consideration of Hellenic views and positions within the Union.

Hellas, as a Union Member-State, submits to competent international organisations proposals aimed at increasing competitiveness of Community Shipping against that of third countries, as well as stamping out protectionism measures whenever form applied.

Our country's steady objectives are also aimed unfair practising in freight rates maintaining a fee competitive environment in international sea transport and improving ship's safety standards, marine environment protection and seamen's training standards.
