Founded in Thessaloniki in 1954, it is housed in a mansion, known as the "Russian Hospital",
built by the Russian Community in 1906.
It constitutes a regional branch of the Public Record Office and aims at locating, compiling,
preserving and protecting archive material that survives or is still produced with regard
to Thessaloniki and Macedonia;
the office further intends to use its collection for public
or private research purposes.
Space within the premises of the Historical Archives of Macedonia
is arranged to accommodate the
exhibition of select archive material kept on the premises.
It focuses on Thessaloniki-centred administrative developments, mainly in the sectors of Education,
Finance and Business Enterprises, from the 19th c. to the present day.
