(A PHILOSOPHY CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO SOCRATES
ON THE OCCASION OF THE 2400th ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH)

RHODES, AUGUST 18th to 25th, 2001

TO ALL PARTICIPANTS IN THE CONFERENCE

This is the latest information concerning the Conference.

  1. The Conference will start as scheduled, at 18.30 on SATURDAY 18TH AUGUST 2001 in the Conference Hall of the Mediterranean Hotel in the town of Rhodes (MEDITERRANEAN HOTEL , 35 KOS STREET, 85100 RHODES - GREECE, TEL. 0241-24661, FAX: 0241- 22828, Email: info@mediterranean.gr).
    The Secretariat of the Conference will be open from 16.00.
    1. After the Official Opening of the Conference, as usual, there will be two key-note papers.
    2. Upon the completion of the evening session, a Reception will be given by the Prefect of Dodecanese (free of charge for the participants).

  2. On the second day of the Conference (SUNDAY 19TH AUGUST), papers will be presented in the morning (9-13.30) and in the afternoon (17.00 - 20.00). The evening will be free.

  3. On MONDAY (20TH AUGUST), there will be sessions in the morning and in the afternoon (time as above), and in the evening a Reception will be given by the Mayor of Rhodes (free of charge for the participants).

  4. On TUESDAY (21ST AUGUST), there will be sessions in the morning and in the afternoon (time as above), and in the evening there will be a Concert performed by the Ensemble "Fortune" from Vienna, in the courtyard of Archeological Museum (free of charge for the participants). The works of Johann Michael Haydn, Friedrich Nietzsche and Werner Schulze will be performed at the Concert.

  5. On WEDNESDAY (22ND AUGUST), there will be sessions in the morning and in the afternoon (time as above). In the afternoon, it is scheduled to be a Parallel Session at the Municipality of Aphantou. In the evening, a Reception will be given by the Mayor of Aphantou (free of charge for the participants).

  6. On THURSDAY (23RD AUGUST), there will be sessions in the morning and in the afternoon (time as above), and in the evening a Reception will be given by the President of the Organising Committee of the Conference, Professor Konstantine Boudouris (free of charge for the participants).

  7. On FRIDAY (24TH AUGUST), morning sessions will be held in Rhodes as scheduled (until 13.30), whereas in the afternoon a visit to Lindos and its Acropolis is planned, and a session will be held there. (The Session in Lindos was originally planned for Saturday, 25th August, but for technical reasons, mainly concerning archeological sites, had to be moved for Friday.) After the session, there will be a Reception by the Mayor of Lindos (free of charge for the participants).

  8. On SATURDAY (25TH AUGUST) we are planning to organise an excursion to the island of Symi by boat, or a tour of the island of Rhodes, or both. The participants will be able to register for these excursions upon their arrival in Rhodes, not later than the end of the third day of the Conference (Monday, 20th August).

Concerning accomodation, all the persons that made their reservations through the Organising Committee of the Conference will receive information about their accomodation in due time. In case there are any last-minute changes regarding the accomodation, these should be addressed directly to the Hotel.
