Anafi TRADITION
BACK ISLAND 's MAP AREIA E-MAIL

PhotoHora of Anafi is built amphitheatrically at the centre of the island. Its snow-white one-storeyed houses have circular terraces and vaulted doors and windows. Its courtyards are adorned with multicoulered flowers and its narrow alleyways are paved. On the 8th of September, the islanders dress in their Sunday best. Anafians, together with Santorinians, gather at the monastery of Kalamiotissa for the big festival. Visitors are stunned by the beautiful traditional attires and the fine upstanding dancers. But what attracts tourists the most is the sense of sharing which hovers in the air, of all the islanders being a big united family.
