[03] PRESIDENCY OF DP PARLIAMENTARY GROUP ASKS HAJDARI'S EXPULSION

TIRANA, JAN 8 (ATA) - The presidency of DP parliamentary group has requested to DP leading forums the expel of deputy Azem Hajdari from the DP parliamentary group, as a result of his oppose against DP program and the democratic government.

His oppose starts since Hajdari attempted to become by force chairman of the Independent Trade Unions of Albania, and self-declared president of these unions he staged strikes, aiming at political tensions.

The so-called "trade union" strikes failed, because Hajdari could gather around himself only 15-20 people. But anyhow, he through his nephew, Sh. Margjekaj, who is the leader of a student union, requested in the first days of this semester to organize the students in an aborted strike.

By this strike, Hajdari wanted to use their economic demands for his own political aims against the Democratic Party. /eva/mt/E

[05] DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF BALLI KOMBETAR REACTS AGAINST RP CHAIRMAN

TIRANA, JAN 9 (ATA) - The deputy chairman of the National Front Party (Balli Kombetar), Hysen Selfo, responded Wednesday to the statements by the Republican Party chairman, Sabri Godo, who had said that he did not think of National Front and Legality movement being the only representatives of the Albanian right wing.

"The real right wing forces should work to create a real right wing", said republican Godo on Tuesday.

"We either give nor take licences to set up alliances or cooperation. We have not requests from other parties so far. The alliances are usually established ahead of elections. From the other side, Godo can create any kind of alliance he likes", has replied Selfo.

He has called the union of Legality Movement Party with the National Front as historic.

"We will fight the referendum to be held before the approval of constitution. I am in favour of setting a round table, in which every party should express its own opinion with regard to this problem, before discussing about the constitution", said Selfo.

LMP and the NFP established an alliance on December 29, 1996, under the name "The Albanian Union of the Right Wing", which according to its leaders Hysen Selfo and Guro Durollari came as a result of the historic necessity, as an aspiration of the Albanian people to group the nationalist forces to prevent the return of communism in Albania, as well as a strong opposition against DP". /eva/kei/mt/k

[06] GREEK POLICE RAID HOUSES IN SEARCH OF ALBANIANS AFTER IDENTIFICATION OF ALBANIAN THIEVES

TIRANA, JAN 9 (ATA)-Greek police squads for four successive nights have been carrying out raids on different houses in search of Albanians, after an Albanian band of masked thieves has been stealing in various houses in Athens for about one month now.

The four members of the band have been identified. The name of one of them is made known by the BBC as Apostol Sina, 19.

Meanwhile, police sources say that the arrest of the band, which the police think is still in Athens, is a question of hours.

The pursuit of the Albanian immigrants in Greece, following this event, is carried out on streets, bus stations and elsewhere. In many cases local inhabitants call the police telling them of the presence of Albanians near their houses.

Albanians who are asleep after a hard work are waken up by sudden police entry into their house and taken to the police station which then sends them home, the BBC correspondent in Athens reports.

In the first days of 1997 the issue assumed great proportions also because it was blown up by some TV channels.

The Greek inhabitants have taken to the streets arms in hand threatening they will apply the law themselves. Large police forces have been patrolling day and night areas, victims of the band of thieves, while the competent bodies call for self-control. But, the inhabitants insist that all the Albanians be expelled.

A police source told BBC that massive arrests of Albanian immigrants have begun in Athens' suburbs.

Some 100 police postblocks, stopping and checking every vehicle, are now operating from the Omonia square, centre of Athens, down to the suburbs.

Tuesday afternoon the Greek Ministry of Public Order asked that only the suspected immigrants be detained.

The spokesman of the Greek Government, Dimitris Repas, has considered groundless the stand of the Greek inhabitants, who threaten the Albanians arms in hand.

Also, the Greek Minister of Public Order, Jorgos Romeos, considered the citizens' reaction exaggerated.

The whole press has harshly criticizes the inhabitants' statements that they have decided to undertake the law implementation.

"Legalisation will help stop the immigrants's exploitation and reduce the negative phenomena caused by their presence in Greece. It also enables the control and isolation of the wrongdoers," Greek newspaper "Etnos" reports. sk/kei/lm/k

[08] CONCRETE STEPS FOR SOLUTION OF STUDENTS REQUESTS

TIRANA, JAN 9 (ATA) - By Eva Allushi: After about four hours of talks in a round table today between the Student Union and Government representatives, a number of points of the petition that the Union had addressed to the Government and the President were solved.

After the meeting of President Sali Berisha with the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific research Besnik Gjongecaj and with Mayor of Tirana Albert Brojka, today's meeting set the deadlines for the solution of the problems preoccupying the students.

Hence, regarding the request of the Student Union for a special status of the Campus, Gjongecaj said that "a draft-decision which is expected to be approved until the end of this month, will be presented to the Government."

Concerning another demand of the students for the status of the Palace of Culture, the Radio of the Campus and the newspaper Studenti, the meeting decided that a board must be created for the question of this status.

The Government representatives said that the students will be helped financially for the publication of their press organs. Technical assistance was promised by the ministry and rectorates for the creation of the student parliament, according to the most advanced European experiences.

With regard to the demand of the Union for the increase of the number of admissions in the university, the reply was that the government has just approved the grwoth of the number of the students who attend part time courses.

The Government representatives also pledged concrete technical assistance for the improvement of the conditions in the campus.

As for a 30 per cent increase of the students scholarships, the idea was that a round table be held between the rerpesentatives of the Student Union, the Ministry of Education and specialists of the Ministry of Finances, in order to prepare a project which will be presented to the Government.kled/xh/sh/

[09] "I WILL ENCOURAGE MY ALBANIAN FRIENDS OF KOSOVA TO SUPPORT SERBIAN OPPOSITION IN ITS FIGHT FOR SERBIA'S DEMOCRATIZATION" - Pack

TIRANA, JAN 9 (ATA) - "I will encourage my Albanian friends of Kosova to support the Serbian opposition in its fight for the democratization of Serbia," declared the deputy of German Bundestag and leader of the delegation of the European Parliament for the East European countries, Doris Pack in an interview with Deutche Velle, adding that they may win only in a genuinely democratic Serbia.

Doris Pack, who will visit Belgrade this weekend, said with regard to latest events in Serbia that "this great movement of people makes me optimistic and pleases me, because, so far, Serbia has never been democratic and this is a good chance for it to attach to Europe and international democratic institutions. Nevertheless, these do not prevent me to find that within the present Serbian opposition there are some currents, some of which with nationalistic tendencies which go beyond the regime of Milosevic."

Asked whether the movement in Belgrade may become a catalyzer for a solution to the question of Kosova, Pack says that this depends so much on the Albanians themselves.

"Not the three currents forming the present opposition, that is, those represented by Draskovic, Djindjic and Pesic have adopted the same positions regarding the solution to the question of Kosova.

But I am sure that none of them will accept the independence or the division of Kosova from Serbia. Their difference vary with regard to the different forms of autonomy that Kosova should enjoy in the context of Serbia. On the other hand, this is also the stand of the international factor.

Asked what should the Albanians of Kosova do in the present conditions created in Serbia, should they consider these events as not related with them or should they exploit this case to demonstrate peacefully their support for their revendications, Pack replied that it is not a good thing that nothing is being heard at this time for Kosova.

"I think that now it is high time for the Albanians of Kosova to loudly ask what Milosevic has grabbed from them. For this reason, they should join the Serbian opposition. I think this is a decisive moment for the Kosova people to come out of the intolerable situation which they are in for 6 years and to give it a solution."

Expressing her oopinion about the latest events in Prishtine and Tirana with regard to the question of Kosova, Pack said that "despite the indisputable and special respect I have for Mr Rugova, who, through his peaceful policy prevented the spillover of the conflict in Kosova, I am not yet able to understand the reasons which urged Mr Rugova to sign the agreement of education with Milosevic. What did this agreement concretely serve? Nothing," said Ms Pack in her interview.

"I do fully agree with the declaration of the President of Albania, Sali Berisha, that the solution to the question of Kosova should not be searched and found in the present regime in Belgrade, neither in Tirana nor in Washington. The solution to this issue should be searched and found in Prishtine," said Pack at the end of her interview with Deutche Velle. ag/kled/xh/sh/
