  • [01] SP HAS TAKEN MAJORITY OF SEATS IN ALBANIAN PARLIAMENT - Preliminary reports

TIRANE, JUNE 29 (ATA) - According to preliminary reports from the parties, a victory of the Socialist opposition is now taking shape. At the end of this day, the SP chairman Fatos Nano, in a meeting with reporters, admitted that according to preliminary reports of his party, and according to surveys, his party has won 60 seats on the majority system from 115 possible seats.

Nano said that in this way he would also take 60 per cent of the seats on the proportional.

Whereas according to the Democratic Party reports, this party has won 25 seats on the majority while more than one seat has been won by HRUP and other seats will be decided in a second runoff.

DP has not been able to carry out its electoral campaign in the south of Albania because it has been prevented by gangs and as a result of direct pressures, in 50 per cent of the polling stations in southern districts, DP election commission members had not been present by the polling boxes.

At the end Nano called on the Albanian people "to surrender arms."

All the figures are not offical and definite. The only reliable figure from the Central Election Commission is the participation of the voters in the ballot which ranges from 60-65 per cent.

According to some reports, in the referendum on the form of the regime in Albania, the monarchy has received the majority of votes in the city of Shkoder, in Kavaje and others.

The obtaining of real reports from other districts is rather difficult for lack of telephone communication means. xh
