  • [01] PEDIATRICS HOSPITAL IN SARANDE COMES INTO OPERATION

    SARANDE, DEC.14 (ATA)-By Sh. Hajno, The pediatrics hospital "Shen Luka" has come into operation in Sarande.

    "The first ten children have been hospitalised and everything is functioning normally", Aristidh Aliaj, pediatrician, told ATA.

    An British staff of nurses and leading officials are also working for three months in this hospital.

    "All medicines and visits in this hospital are free," Stewart Shaller, representative of this staff and manager of the hospital told ATA.

    The hospital has been completed after the spring arrest through funds collected by the "Children in distress" association and is furnished with all medical equipment and laboratory. All rooms of the children's wards and those of service have been equipped with air condition. The monthly quota of food for a patient 2-14 years old is $100.

    The cost of this hospital, with all its equipment, exceeds $1,5 million. a/ke/kled/lm/sh/

    [02] AUSTRIA TO SUPPORT ALBANIA IN ITS REFORMS - president

    TIRANE, DEC.14 (ATA)-Austrian president Thomas Klestil has expressed his country's support for Albania in its road of reforms.

    "Austria wishes to devote special attention to the development of the projects for Albania's economic recovery also in the future," Klestil told the new Albanian ambassador, Alfred Sejdiaj, on the occasion of presenting the credentials.

    In the context of the European Union Klestil said that Austria will be committed to a speedy renewal of the Cooperation Agreement with Albania.

    He said theat Austria evaluates Albania's efforts to take an active part in creating a European peaceful order. In this context, he said, "Austria regards Albanian's membership of the Council of Euro-Atlantic Partnership as an important step towards building together a peaceful order". kled/lm

    TIRANE, DEC.14 (ATA)-Today's Zeri i Popullit says that SP chairman for Tirana resigns and Ilir Meta is elected in his stead.

    After the resignation of Musa Ulqini, the SPA chairman, Fatos Nano, proposes Ilir Meta for chairman of the SP of Tirana, which was accepted by full consensus, the paper says.

    After government talks with the IMF, salaries increase by 20 per cent for the budget workers, the paper says under the title"Ambitious projects for 1998".

    Under the title:"Relations with Greece are very important", the paper covers the meeting of parliament speaker Gjinushi with the PASOK delegation.

    Berisha has asked militants to involve in strikes workers of transport, teachers, pupils, energy, health and other sectors in order to overthrow the current government!", the paper says under the title: "Message of Berisha: war, destruction".

    "Berisha: We receive from Shkoder the great mission to reestablish democracy. The democrats will extend their protests all over the country. Representatives of the United Right Wing also join DP rallies", Rilindja Demokratike says under the tittle:"Shkoder: Down with communism".

    Facts and charges on the government's ring of contraband increase, the paper says under the title "Albania in Mafia's claws".

    "Revanche on administration is finally ruining the state", the paper says in an article.

    "Berisha is not serious with the owners", Republika entitles its editorial. The paper covers yesterday's conference of Republican leader Mediu under the title:"Mediu: The prime minister should speak Albanian". The paper also carries an interview of Sabri Godo under the title:"Godo: Nano should be clear in public". "The state secretly sells bonds", the paper says.

    "CIA, its claws in Albania", newspaper Koha Jone says. "'Crash': Nano government under surveillance of U.S. secret services", the paper says.

    "Beginning as a routine meeting, the Tirane Conference recorded yesterday the most interesting political development inside the DP",the editorial of the newspaper says. "Contraband has a leading cupola", the paper cites Interior Minister Ceka as saying.

    "Nano holds unity by iron hand. The winning candidature eases tension before the National Conference," the paper says under the title:"SP of Tirane, Meta, chairman". "The leader of the opposition on the second day of his visit to Shkoder. Thousands in the rally", the paper says under the title:"Berisha: Shkoder, my rebirth".

    The paper carries an interview with Minister of Justice Thimio Kondi under the title:"Constitutional Court, a Political Bureau".

    Blood along the Albanian-Yugoslav border, the paper says underling the fact that the 41 year old from Kukes had received 17 wounds.

    "Public speech and opinion at stake", is another article of the paper. "Informal economy strengthens the lek", it says in another article.

    "Albanians' 24 hours-crime and contraband" is the title of newspaper Albania's editorial. "Eight Albanians have been killed in the last 24 hours in Albania in the capital and three of the main cities", the editorial says.

    "Berisha celebrates December 13 in Shkoder - Elections in the spring", the paper says under the title:"Albania should be liberated from gangs".

    The paper carries a pronouncement of the new leader of the SP of Tirane, Ilir Meta, under the title:"The election was a surprise".

    The paper covers yesterday's news conference of republican leader Mediu under the title: "Mediu: Nano should step down".

    "The number of administration workers will be reduced by 10 000 until the next March", Prime Minister Nano said at yesterday's SP conference of Tirane, the paper says. "Cheating pyramids reappear", the paper says on the fifth page.

    "Government, changes in winter", newspaper Dita says. "Nano declares expiry of mandates for ministers. Ilir Meta at the head of the SP of Tirane. Nano is asked for the legalisation of the Communist Party", the paper says.

    The paper covers yesterday's news conference of republican leader Mediu under the title:"Mediu: Nano does not love his nation, he should step down".

    "Thousands of people celebrate December 13 , 1990 in Shkoder", the paper says under the title:"Berisha:"Let's begin protests and strikes, we will support you". "The state loses 600 million dollars per year", the paper says.

    "Amid stormy debates, the SP conference of Tirane elects Ilir Meta chairman of the Tirana branch", Shekulli says under the title: "Nano : We will open files soon".

    "IMF ends consultations with the government" the paper says under the title:"State budget ready for parliament".

    As regards economic issues the paper says:"Kiosks 'love' of Albanians".

    "Kosova increasingly under threat of explosive tension", says newspaper Rilindja. "Legitimacy of action won only through the free vote", the paper says.

    "Sexual abuse, open wound of the society", newspaper Gazeta Shqiptare says, adding that non-governmental associations have registered 25 cases of aggression during 1997.

    [04] ALBANIAN PRIME MINISTER LEAVES FOR LONDON

    TIRANE, DEC.14 (ATA)-By A. Hasani, Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano left this morning on a four-day visit to London, at the invitation of the British government.

    The Albanian delegation also includes Minister of Economy and Privatisation, Ylli Bufi.

    Nano's visit to London is made only few days before England takes over the presidency of the EU on the 1st of January, 1998.

    Asked about the aim and priorities of the visit, the Prime Minister's spokesman, Ben Blushi, said that "Albania will ask support also based on the agreements predicted by the EU countries".

    According to the spokesman the multi-faceted talks will also include the Kosova issue.

    Another important aspect of the visit will be Albanian government's contacts with a series of companies which are interested in investing in Albania. Blushi referred to the priorities in the field of oil and minerals.

    During his stay in London Nano will hold important meetings with political authorities and exchange messages with British Prime Minister Tony Blair. kled/lm/sh/

    [05] HEALTH CENTERS RECONSTRUCTED IN KURBIN

    LAC, DEC.14 (ATA)-By B. Lala,

    Health centres in Mamurras, Fushe-Mamurras, Fushe-Milot have been reconstructed this year with a fund of 8.4 million leks from the budget of the Health Ministry.

    The reconstruction of health centres of Milot, Gjormi and Gallata was also completed in the third three months of this year with a fund of some 60.000 dollars, donation of Spanish and Austrian foundations.

    The director of the priority health service, Dr. Ahmet Ulaj, told ATA that the foreign foundations operating in this district have also given their own contribution to this end. kled/lm/sh/

    [06] CLERGY LA ROSA CARMELO DECLARED CITIZEN OF HONOUR OF MAMURRAS

    MAMURRAS, DEC.14 (ATA)- By Z. Pergega, A catholic clergy has become citizen of honour of the Mamurras town in Kurbin district.

    The municipal council of Mamurras awarded the title "Citizen of honour" to parson La Rosa Carmelo for his great great contribution to the field of medicine and education and that of investment in infrastructure in the town of Mamurras and villages Zheje and Katundi i Ri.

    La Rosa Carmelo has written six books on Albania in a two year period. a.ke/kled/lm/sh/
