  • [01] Grave situation in Kosova continues

    PRISHTINE, May 2 /ATA correspondent Behlul Jashari reports: The situation in Kosova today (Saturday) continues to be very grave, especially along the border with Albania and other regions of Dukagjini and Drenica, the Democratic League of Kosova (LDK), reported at a meeting of its leadership today.

    The city of Gjakova and its suburbs are still under an iron siege, while the Serbian forces have bombarded the Baballoq village of the Decan commune.

    The Serbian forces have been built up in the Drenica region and areas bordering Albania, where military convoys of armoured cars, cannons and other heavy armaments have been dispatched.

    The Serbian forces continue to exercise terror on the population of the Vojnik, Turecef, Buroje, Kopiliq, Acareve, Llaushe, and Rakinice villages and have burnt down many houses.

    Serbians forces have been reinforced also in Jashanice, Duhel, Shtime, Suhareke and Malisheve. /b.ca/mima/lm/

    [02] Serbian forces open heavy machine-gun and mortar fire along the border with Albania

    PRISHTINE, May 3- ATA correspondent Behlul Jashari reports: Today at around 10.00 a.m. the Serbian forces opened heavy machine-gun and mortar fire and carried out flights over the Kosova-Albania border line, in the direction of Junik, Morine, Gjakove, Reke e Keqe and Ponoshec villages, according to the spokeswoman of the Democratic League of Kosova (LDK), Besa Arllati.

    Four Albanians were buried today under Serbian volleys of gunfire. They were killed on Saturday by the Serbian forces.

    According to the same source, over the last 48 hours the village of Kopiliq i Poshtem has been hit by Serbian forces' grenades, which have seriously damaged 54 houses of Albanians.

    The town of Skenderaj became the target of Serbian snipers' fire on Saturday night. /fh/mima/lm/

    [03] Greek Health minister to visit Tirana on Monday

    TIRANA, May 3 (ATA)-Greek Minister of Health K. Geitona is visiting Albania on Monday, at the invitation of Albanian Health Minister Leonard Solis.

    During the two-day visit to Albania the Greek delegation will be familiarised with Albania's needs in the field of health and discuss promotion of cooperation in this field.

    Currently, hundreds of Albanian citizens, sick or wounded are treated free of charge in the Greek hospitals of Ioannina, Salonika and other cities. /s.s/mima/lm/

    [04] Grave situation continues on Kosova-Albania border

    PRISHTINE, May 3-ATA correspondent Behlul Jashari reports: Albanian sources from Decan said that at around 14.30 the Serbian forces continued machine-gun and mortar fire in the direction of the border line with Albania from Junik, Morina and other villages.

    The Democratic League of Kosova branch (LDK) in Gjakova reports that the concentration of the Serbian military forces at Reke e Keqe, Ponoshec, Morine, Brovine, Molliq and other villages along the Kosova-Albania border line continues.

    Meanwhile, three tanks, three armoured cars, five truckloads of Serbian army forces and Serbian special police units with camouflage paint on their faces have started in the direction of the border with Albania.

    In the meantime, along the Gjakova roads, the Serbian forces are maltreating Albanian pedestrians. The Serbian forces, also backed by the snipers placed on the building tops, are tightly checking the territory around the Serbian police station in Gjakova and they are reported to have maltreated many children of the quarter near this station. /fh/mima/lm/

    [05] Albania's Premier says government will encourage investment in Durres

    DURRES, May 3 (ATA)-By S. Gjordeni, Albania's Prime Minister Fatos Nano on Sunday visited the "House '98" Fair, held in the spaces of Sports palace "Ramazan Njala" in the port city of Durres.

    "The measures the Government will take in the fiscal domain , especially in the customs' legislation, aim to help the businessmen augment production and reduce sale prices," Nano told the businessmen.

    Nano said that Durres has vast resources of development and that the Government will encourage investments in the country's biggest port city, which will be the main gate of the 8th corridor.

    "The considerable investments earmarked by the international financial organisations for the modernisation of the seaport, for the construction of the Durres-Rrogozhine motorway, as part of the 8th corridor, and the state investments will create vast and real possibilities for the employment of a considerable number of people," said Nano.

    Nano said that Durres will very soon turn into a significant centre of production and trade and, along with Tirana, will create the Albanian metropolis where one million people will live.

    Nano was also accompanied by the Minister of Economic and Trade Cooperation, Ermelinda Meksi.
