[07] Hani i hotit customs point still closed

    KOPLIK, Dec 6 (ATA)-By M. Malja,

The Hani i hotit customs point, Malesi e Madhe district, has been closed since last March.

The unilateral closure of this point by the Yugoslav side has substantially reduced the number of people moving on both sides of the border as well as the movement of traders.

This point continues to be closed despite frequent intercessions of the Albanian government and local bodies with the Yugoslav authorities.

Economic specialists say that both sides suffer great economic loss due to the blockage of this border crossing. The customs of the two countries have lost some tens of thousands of dollars.

The closure of this point has also led to the continuation of contraband through the Shkoder lake. This lake after 1993 became a smuggling centre of fuel, cigarette, coffee and other goods.

The Minister of National Minorities of Montenegro, Luigj Gjoncaj, during a visit to the Shkoder city recently, pledged the opening of this border point. /dast/lm/

This fund will also help repair the premises of the building, in which the library will be located, said Billa.

This will put an end to the three-year Odyssey of the Vlore city library. After a decision of the municipal council in 1995 this library was transferred to the premises of the palace of culture "Laberia", under very unsuitable conditions.

After constant demands by the cultural centre, also backed by the city town-hall, the Fiance Ministry gave the green light to changing the destination of this library. /dast/lm/
