[01] Some 30 thousand Albanian women prostituting in Europe - UNDPTIRANE, August 1 (ata) - By Eva Londo: According to a study made by UNDP, the number of Albanian women prostituting in Europe is nearly 30 000, and they are between 14-54 years.According to the same study, Albanian Interpol has handled in the period 1993-1998, 103 cases of girls who have disappeared, on the basis of the denunciation from their families and later it has managed to return to Albania 44 of them. From 580 people denounced over 1991-1997 for prostitution trafficking, 200 of them have been arrested. During the period 1993-1997, prostitution in Albania had an immediate increase. During the past two years, studies have registered a lower figure on prostitution but never its elimination. /dast/xh/ D'Arc Avenue 23, Tirana, Albania E-Mail: Albanian Telegraphic Agency[02] French Government finances three projects to improve livestock breedingKORCE, August 1 (ata) - By B Fejzullai: The French Government has financed in Korca district three projects for livestock breed improvement.Femi Xhemo, director of the agricultural department of the district told ATA that the French party has brought in Korce 145 cows of Tarantese breed, 272 cows of the breed "Il de France" and 210 cows of alpine goats. The cows and goats have been given to farmers for their good rearing while the sheep are given to the Station of small sheep. The French party has assisted the agricultural department also with a laboratory for the artificial insemination and a laboratory for milk analyses. During this year, the French party has agreed to also bring another contingent of livestock of these breeds. Xhemo explains that the breeding of these cow with the local ones has led to a higher production of milk. In the context of the relations with France, many specialists and farmers have been sent on short-term specializations to France. The French forces will also rehabilitate the football field. /lh/lm/ D'Arc Avenue 23, Tirana, Albania E-Mail: Albanian Telegraphic Agency[11] Two policemen wounded in KukesKUKES, July 2 (ATA) - By Riza Hoxha: Two employees of the Kukes police commissariat have remained wounded on Sunday while they were on duty.The event happened at about 17.20 on Sunday, near the city hotel, when the police of Rapid Intervention Forces intervened to solve the disagreement between the citizen Besnik Haziri and some UNHCR employees working in Kukes. Haziri, 34, inhabitant of Kukes city, while aiming at profiting under the pretension of ownership on the soil where the hotel is constructed, place where the UNCHR employees were sheltered, opened fire against them. Rapid Intervention Forces went to the spot immediately, but Haziri opened fire without hezitation against them. The two policemen Gazment Basha and Ramadan Hila were wounded during the fire. Haziri is in serious conditions, while the other policemen is out of life danger. The event was confirmed to ATA by Kukes district police chief, Ylber Duraku, who added that Besnik Haziri, aged 34, was arrested immediately by the police forces. According to Duraku, the quarrels on the soil ownership in Kukes city have become rather concerning for the state structures, and they have obstacled the foreign investments. /s.s/A.A/ D'Arc Avenue 23, Tirana, Albania E-Mail: Albanian Telegraphic Agency[12] Vengeance in Tirane center; Two people reported dead and five woundedTIRANE, August 2 (ATA) - Two people have died and five others are wounded during a grave incident which happened on Sunday evening at the cross of "Bajram Curri" boulevard in the "Sami Frasheri" road, Tirane, only 200 meters away from the Directorate of Police Prefecture.According to the spokesman of this directorate, armed persons who were traveling with a car, "Benz" kind, have opened fire with automatic riffle against a group of persons, and killed the citizen Leonard Ismet Idrizi, aged 18, born in Durres, and inhabitant of "Çole" quarter in Vlore. According to a police communique, Idrizi was sentenced in 1997 with 16 years imprisonment accused of the killing of his uncle, but he was released a week ago by the Supreme Court. Klodian Islam Hyseni, 20, from Yzberisht, the friend accompanying Idrizi remained wounded. The cartridges caused even the death of the citizen Mesin Haxhi Kuteli, 58, who was baking maizes in the pavement. Police sources report that some other four by-passers are wounded. All the wounded people are send home after being medically treated, except Klodian Hyseni, who is hospitalized. The police forces think that the cause of the crime is revenge. Idrizi and Hyseni had relations with Myrteza Çaushi, one of the persons proclaimed as rather wanted by the police forces. /A.A/ D'Arc Avenue 23, Tirana, Albania E-Mail: Albanian Telegraphic Agency[13] AFD: 3,3 million dollars investments during first half of 1999Tirana, August 2 (ATA) - By Elton Metaj -The total value of the investments of the Albanian Fund of Development during the first half of 1999 is some 3,3 million dollars, and 2,66 of them are used, stated in press conference the Executive Director of AFD Maksim Mitrojorgji.During the first six months 199 sub-projects are implemented, 39 are started and 63 other are completed. Since 1993, the time when this Fund started its activity some 27 million dollars are planned for investments and some 21 million dollars are used. So, in total 623 are started and 496 projects are completed. According to the directors of the Fund during the first six months of 1999, the rehabilitation of 566 km road, 195 km water pipeline, etc, are completed with the finances of this organization. They mentioned the declaration of one of anti-contraband prosecutors, according to which "the contraband is leaded by Tirane mobile phones". "The Prosecutor Bilbil Meta, and others should carry to the end their denouncement against the state leaders who chair the contraband, in the contrary, these declarations will be considered as demagogy and will show that the contraband alliance between smugglers, ministers and justice continues", said Vili Minarolli. The DP members said that they have always presented alternatives to cope with this crises. The appeal of the Balkan women was presented before the representatives in this summit by Albanian delegation, but it (the appeal) was signed by tens of Balkan countries participating in the Summit. This study, to include even a business plan, will present the ways and the measures to be taken aiming at restructure of the gas sector in Albania.According to the spokesman, the Minister Bufi held today a meeting with the directors and specialists of the hydro-carbures directorates close to the ministry, APC, Albpetrol, AKH and Oil Institute. Different problems on gas production and distribution by Albpetrol is discussed in the meeting. At the moment Albpetrol produces 34 thousand m3 per day through its existent sources.This quantity is possible to be sold to ARMO, for current infrastructure. The participants in the meeting stressed the fact that the production level is far way from the real needs of Albania, and especially of the future ones. "The main task is the transformation of the gas sector in a profitable economic activity", said Minister Bufi, who order APC that in cooperation with Oil Institute, AKH and Energy Agency to draft within August a study totally economic. Koraqi, The Atlantic Council has decided that NATO continues to stay in Albania but the modalities on this new force have not yet been defined, Helge Eriksen, chief of information close to AFOR in Tirane, told ATA.The AFOR troops, which are currently in Albania, will leave on September 1, said Eriksen, explaining that the new NATO force may be named AFOR 2. Asked about the number, mission and command of this force, Erkisen says that so far nothing has been defined in detail and added that these issues will be determined at a special meeting of the Council of the Alliance. However, the chief of AFOR information said that Italy has expressed the desire to assume the command of this force, while the number of troops is said to be around 2000. As to the mission of this force, he said that although nothing has been clearly defined, this force may serve as a support for the KFOR troops in Kosova and the adjustment of infrastructure in Albania. Asked about the composition of this force, Eriksen explained that AFOR 2 will include troops from all the NATO member countries. And, as to whether this force will include troops from AFOR, currently active in Albania, Eriksen said that most of the AFOR troops will depart, but, AFOR 2 may contain troops from the AFOR here. These zones spread further as 50 out of these spots became the main centers of marihuana production and cultivation. According to the official figures the number of narchotics amounts to 10 000, out of whom 8 000 are in the capital. The cities where the drugs are mostly used are Tirane, Durres, Shijak, Shkoder, Vlore and Elbasan. Males result to consume more the drugs. Heroine is used in 90% of cases, but marihuana, cannabis and cocaine are used less. More than 7 people have died in Albania due to overdose. Concerning the privatization of the only Albanian mobile company AMC the preparation of Information Memorandum and the publication of the invitation in the specialized international newspapers by the part of IMI, financial adviser, is mentioned in the meeting.
