    [02] Cooperation project between electroenergetic corporations

    TIRANE, Sept 11 (ATA)- By E.Metaj, Electroenergetic corporations of Albania and Greece will consolidate the cooperation for improving the transmission - distribution system of electric power, sources from Ministry of Privatization told ATA.

    The Albanian Minister of Economy, Ylli Bufi, held talks in Salonika with his Greek counterpart, Venisellos, where they discussed the common points of cooperation in the field of energetic.

    A cooperation project was signed between the two electroenergetic corporations of Albania and Greece which foresees the consolidation of the electric power system in Korçe region. /led/so/A.A/

    [03] Electric power regional market declaration signed

    TIRANE, Sept 11 (ATA) By M. Pupa: - A declaration on the establishing of the regional market of electric power was signed in the interministerial conference entitled "The establishing of the Electric power regional market for the Southeastern Europe", holding sessions in Salonika, Greece, sources from Albanian Ministry of Privatization reported on Saturday.

    The conference was organized by the EU with the participation of ministers of Energy from Albania, Bosnia Hercegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Macedonia and EC High Commissioner for energy, Mr Kristos Papoutsis.

    In the declaration is expressed the political will and the government readiness to cooperate in the energetic field, especially in energetic exchange in this regional market. The participating countries agreed on the transmission network development and on the establishing in the future of the necessary administrative, economic and legal structures for the promotion of this energy competitive regional market.

    The Albanian minister Ylli Bufi, in his speech pointed out Albanian government energetic policy and the prior projects put forward in the framework of Stability Pact. /led/gs/A.A/

    [04] Ancona mayor proclaimed "Citizen of honor" of Durres city

    DURRES, Sep. 11 (ATA) - The mayor of Ancona, Renato Galeaci was proclaimed on Saturday "A citizen of honor of Durres city", while Dr. Braveti, employee of this town-hall, was honoured with the "Friend of Durres city" title.

    In the ceremony held on this occasion, Durres mayor Arqile Gorreja, said that "Galeaci and Braveti are honoured with these awards by the Durres municipality and town-hall council for the engagement and precise contribution delivered in different fields for our city".

    Galeaci thanked the participants for the honor made to him and revealed that he was the first citizen of Ankona that becomes even the citizen of Durres. In the sister-relation framework, we will continue the close cooperation to help even in the future the community of Durres city. He said that Albania occupies an important place and role in Europe. /led/A.A/

    [05] Delegation of Parliament's foreign policy commission due to China

    TIRANE, Sept 11 (ATA)- By Alba Gjakova, An Albanian delegation of People's Assembly, headed by the chairman of the permanent parliamentary commission of Foreign Policy, Sabri Godo, left for China on Saturday at the invitation of China's Great People's Assembly of the Foreign Policy Commission.

    The scope of this visit is the materialization of interparliamentary relations for consolidation of relations between the two countries in the future. The delegation is expected to hold high level talks with the representatives of Great Popular Assembly, Chinese government and others.

    The latest events in Kosove as well as the future of the peace process in the region will be the main topics to be discussed between the two parts. /led/so/A.A/

    [06] World Bank provides the first $20 million on structural arrangements

    TIRANE, Sept 11 (ATA) By D. Koca: - World Bank (WB) disbursed the first $20 million installment of the $45 million loan on Friday, to support the Structural Arrangement Programme, the Albanian government approved and actually being executed.

    The agreement on this loan was signed on June 24, 1999 between WB and the Albanian government and was implemented on August 9, 1999. The structural measures to be taken in the framework of this programme, have to do with government and institutional reform consolidation as well as the establishing of a responsible and transparent state as one of the main objectives of the structural reform programme.

    The fulfilment the overall programme prerequisites is a must for the second installment disbursement of the WB loan. The ultimate deadline to meet the conditions according to the programme is December 1999. The programme is being monitored by WB. /A.A/

    [07] Albanian PM ends visit to Italy

    TIRANE, Sept 11 (ATA)-By E. Nepravishta, Albanian Prime Minister Pandeli Majko on Saturday ended his one-day visit to Italy, where he attended the signing of the Aid and Cooperation protocol between the Albanian and Italian governments for 1999, in Rome on Friday.

    For the Albanian side, the protocol known as the "Angioni package", worth 70 billion lire, was signed by Ermelinda Meksi, Minister of Economic Cooperation and Trade, while for the Italian side by General Franco Angioni, Commissar Extraordinary of the Italian Government for initiatives in favour of Albania.

    Majko said in Modena on Friday that the crisis in the region brought to the fore new motives for cooperation between Albania and Italy.

    Majko also attended an open debate with an audience of 2000 people in Modena which was also attended by Minister for Economic Cooperation Piero Fassino and the Deputy Secretary of State at the Italian Prime Minister's Office, Marco Miniti.

    The debate was about the new situation in the Balkans and Majko stressed the idea of the Albanian government that the situation in Kosova should be regarded as a process which has begun on a right track. /led/lm/

    [08] President Meidani leaves for Germany

    TIRANE, Sept 11 (ATA)-President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani on Saturday left for the FR of Germany, where he will take part in an international conference of European journalists, the President's office reports.

    Meidani, as a guest of honour of the European Journalists' Association, will speak of the current situation in Albania following the end of the war in Kosova as well as on the perspective of Albania in the framework of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe.

    The role of Tirane in a multiethnic society in Kosova, as a significant issue to enhance cooperation and democratic development in Kosova and broader in the region will occupy a special place in Meidani's pronouncements.

    Meidani will devote special attention to the need to intensify European integrating processes for Albania, with the role of the media being very significant in sensitizing and drawing the attention of the European politics on this situation of intensive regional developments. /lh/lm/

    [09] Some 400 roots of cannabis sativa eliminated

    SHKODER, Sept 10 (ATA)-By M. Malja, Anti-drugs police forces of Shkoder Police department on Saturday eliminated 400 roots of narcotic plants of cannabis sativa, according to the spokeswoman of this Department.

    She said the narcotic plants have been eliminated in Trush village, some six km far form the city.

    Over the last two months, the forces of this department have eliminated over 4 200 roots of cannabis sativa, and have detained four persons. The district court has ruled unlimited prison arrest measures against two of them. /lh/lm/

    [10] Concrete ideas acceptable for discussion demanded - Mediu

    TIRANE, Sept 11 (ATA)-By A. Haxhiu, The Republican Party on Saturday considered the government's interpellation in parliament about the Stability Pact a political failure.

    "The government should not ask hypothetical pacts for propaganda purposes, but raise concrete ideas acceptable for discussion," said RP chairman Fatmir Mediu.

    He said the RP has long since presented its alternatives, which would serve the Albanians. First, said Mediu, is the creation of a board for managing the economic and financial situations the country is undergoing and second the creation of the anti-crime platform.

    The republicans also spoke of a visit an Albanian opposition delegation will pay to the U.S. next week.

    The delegation which also includes Mediu, DP deputy chairman Genc Pollo, as well as other opposition leaders, will put forward the alternatives regarding the fight against crime and improvement of the economic situation at home. /lh/lm/

    [11] Albanian beauties to participate in Miss Europe for ten years

    TIRANE, Sept 11 (ATA)-O. Kadaifciu, The Albanian Beauty for ten years will have the right to participation in "Miss Europe" spectacle, Petro Bozo, manager and producer of "Miss Albania", said on Saturday.

    "A contract was signed between the organisational group of Miss Europe and Albanian representatives, in one of the days Miss Europe '99 was held," he said.

    This contract provides exclusive participation of the Albanian girls in the yearly spectacle Miss Europe.

    Next year Miss Europe is scheduled to be held in Hungary. /lh/lm/

    [12] Fifty Roms from Kosova attempt to cross to Italy via Vlore

    VLORE, Sept 11 (ATA)-By H. Koci,

    Fifty Roms from Kosova attempted to cross to Italy via Vlore, the spokesman of Vlore police department said on Saturday.

    The roms, who arrived in Vlore by train on Friday evening, were immediately blocked at the train station and were later taken to the police station, where the procedures of verification and their return home were carried out.

    The spokesman said that most were women and children.

    It is the first time that a contingent of Kosova Roms has arrived in Vlore. They had earlier used the Montenegro shores to cross to Italy. /lh/lm/
