    TIRANE, Sept 18 (ATA)-By E.Nepravishta, The Government Commission, in charge of the organisation of the celebrations of the 55th anniversary of Albania liberation conducted his first meeting under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister Ilir Meta on Friday.

    In this meeting it was also discussed the opening of a pavillion of the National Liberation Antifascist War. /lh/so/

    [02] The Albanian government denting the start of the Pact economic phase

    TIRANE, Sep 18 (ATA) By I. Luto: - Foreign Affairs vice minister Pellumb Xhufi, in a meeting with Norwergian Secretary of State in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Janne Haatland Matlary on Friday, emphasized that "The Albanian government is denting the start of the Stability Pact economic phase".

    "We hope the Stability Pact pass from political to economic level", said Xhufi who informed Matlary on the projects the Albanian government introduced inthe framework of this work and asked for the Norway support.

    Matlary said "we can contribute in certain fields such as energetics, health and telecommunication. The Norwegian government to this end is outlining a national plan to invest in the Southeastern Europe region in the framework of the Stability Pact, in which Albania will have an important place" The interlocutors assessed positively the latest events in Kosovo./led/gs/

    [03] "The joy of the eye" with "Peace in Kosove" exhibition

    TIRANE, Sept 18 (ATA)-By Ornela Kadaifçiu, The painters' group "The joy of the eye" opened the exhibition "Peace in Kosovo" in the wards of the National Historical Museum on Friday afternoon.

    Some 75 works of 60 children from Tirana were displayed in this exhibition, which follows the project "War in Kosovo" realized during Kosovar exodus period in Albania.

    "The joy of the eye", created in '85, has represented Albania in several International painting activities for children.

    This group, was awarded some 169 different trophies from the year of its foundation, among which medals, prizes diplomas and lately the Golden Slab in Bitola, Macedonia. /led/so/

    [04] Cooperation with the German army in increase for 2000

    TIRANE, Sep 18 (ATA) By R.Xhuvani: - The German support to the Albanian army, which was evident during Kosovo crises and the continuation of this assistance in the future, were in the focus of the talks the Chief of the Army General Headquarters, general Aleks Andoni, held with the Bundeswehr delegation on Friday, headed by colonel Arnold, sources of Ministry of Defence told ATA.

    The support Germany is giving Albania in sectors of military education, health, communications will enable the fast transformation of the Albanian army, general Andoni said.

    Colonel Arnold said that "during talks with Albanian experts, a step forward is made toward the two armies cooperation and this is obvious in the increase of activities planned for year 2000, which including a lot of scholarships, qualifying cources for students and military. /led/gs/

    [06] Canadian associations to increase commitment in Albania

    TIRANE, Sept 18 (ATA) - The Albanian President, Rexhep Meidani, asked for intervention, from the Canadian humanitarian associations, with projects in road infrastructure, energetic, water and others, over the meeting on Friday with Flora MacDonald, a senior personality of Canadian policy, the press office close to the Presidency told ATA.

    Meidani and MacDonald regarded as important projects for the consolidation of the civil society and a transparent political process in governing the country.

    MacDonald expressed her commitment for the intensification of the projects of the humanitarian association CARE International, engaged in Albania during Kosovo crisis.

    In the meeting it was also discussed the aid to be given in the educational field especially in Kosovo. She promised to expand the activity of the several associations she leads.

    MacDonald is the President of the Coordination Committee for"The International Year on the needs of the aged people". She has held several ministerial posts in the Canadian government and is actually engaged in many humanitarian projects. /led/so/

    [07] Milo appreciates Norwegian aid to Albania

    TIRANE, Sept 18 (ATA)-Albania's Foreign Minister Paskal Milo on Saturday met with the Secretary of State of Norway's Foreign Ministry, Janne Haaland Mallary, and highly appreciated the aid Norway gave Albania during the crisis in Kosova, according to the Foreign Ministry press and information office.

    Milo made a presentation of the latest developments in Albania and stressed that the Albanian government is fully engaged in the restoring of order, considering this an indispensable condition for the further development of the country.

    He underlined the recent achievements by the Albanian police in combatting crime and the great aid the MAPE mission forces have provided them with.

    Dwelling on bilateral cooperation, Milo stressed that Albania is much interested in an increase of the Norwegian presence in Albania, a thing which is also closely linked with the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe, in which Albania has a central role to play.

    Mallary evaluated Albania's ongoing achievements and pledged a great aid from her country.

    "Norway is preparing a special plan for the Stability Pact and we devote a very great importance to Norway's integration into this Pact," said Mallary.

    In this context, a Norwegian delegation is expected to visit Albania in October to study the fields on which Norwegian investments will concentrate.

    Another topic of discussion were the developments in the region, particularly in Kosova, where both sides shared the same opinions on the developments there. Millary reconfirmed the aid her country will give for Kosova's reconstruction. /lh/lm/

    [08] Export of agricultural products lifts by 36%

    Tirana, September 18 (ata) - By E.Xhajanka - The export of Albanian agricultural products lifts by 36% in 1999, reported ATA sources from the Ministry of Agriculture.

    Albanian businessmen have found foreign markets to sell the agricultural products and have signed contracts with different farmers on collecting the booked products.

    The total value of the agricultural and animal products during the first six months of 1999 reached to 956 million leks, by marking an increase of some 36% compared with the value marked at the same period last year.

    These exports are moved toward Italy, which cover nearly 34% of the total export value, followed by Greece and Germany by 21%. The increasing of this export is a good sign, which indicated the increase of the production in Albania. /led/linda/

    [09] Church of Shen Nikolle inaugurated in Velipoje

    SHKODER, Sept 18 (ATA)-By M. Malja, The new church of Shen Nikolle was inaugurated on Saturday in Velipoje village, some 30 km from the city of Shkoder.

    Also attending the consecration of the church, besides thousands of believers, were President of the Republic Rexhep Meidani, local government leaders, Archbishop of Durres and Tirane Rrok Mirdita and clergies from Germany and Austria.

    The church was consecrated by the archbishop of Shkoder Angjelo Masafra. /lh/lm/

    [10] Dhanapala estimates Albanian involvement in disarm question

    Tirana, September 18 (ata) - UN Under General Secretary on Disarm Question Jayanta Dhanapal in the meeting held on Saturday with the Albanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Paskal Milo estimated the work and the involvement of Albanian Government and People in disarm question.

    According to the press and information office close to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dhanapala hailed the work done by the staff of UNDP office in Tirana in financing the development programs as part of "Weapons in exchange of development" project. He also estimated the support and the work performed by the Ministry of Local Government. In this frame he stated that the project results are concrete ones and mentioned some of them.

    Taking the necessary measures on preparing proper situation aiming at extending of this project in other regions of the country will be made possible in conjunction with other UN organization, stated Mr.Dhanapala.

    Albanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Paskal Milo, by supporting the engagement of Mr.Dhanapala, said that the implementation of such projects in Tropoja and Kuksi areas will be of great importance, because they bring not only the weapons' collection, but even the economic development of these areas.

    The progress of this project in disarm field is a good sign for the cooperation between Albania and UN, and at the same time a hopeful message for Kosova, in frame work of KLA demilitarization. /lh/linda

    [11] U.N. official praises Albania efforts to restore law and order

    TIRANE, Sept 18 (ATA)-By E. Nepravishta, Jaynatha Dhanapala, U.N. deputy Secretary General on Disarmament Matters, on Saturday praised the Albanian government's efforts to strengthen law and order in Albania.

    At a meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Majko, Dhanapala highly evaluated the Albanian government's initiatives and efforts to strengthen law and order in Albania.

    Dhanapala informed Prime Minister Majko on the development of the pilot project "Weapons in exchange for development", implemented in Gramsh and confirmed the near plans to expand the project and extend it to other zones of the country.

    Majko considered the U.N.-initiated project very significant for the Albanian government and stressed that the disarmament of the population requires not only the implementation of the law but also its association with new techniques and ideas like those offered by the U.N. project.

    Majko guaranteed Dhanapala that the Albanian government will continue its multi-faceted efforts to restore order in Albania. /lh/lm/

    [12] Important investments to start in Northern region of Albania

    Koplik, September 18 (ata) - By M.Malja - Important investments are expected to start soon in the Northern region of the country, respectively in Malesi e Madhe and Shkoder districts, reported on Saturday sources from this prefecture.

    Referring to them, these districts are included in several projects of Stability Pact of Southeastern Europe. The first project is the construction of the road Lezhe-Shkoder and Shkoder-Hani i Hotit, which is part of Corridor South-North. Already the operations up to Lezha town are at the end. The total value to be offered by World Bank for implementation of this project is some 9 million dollars.

    Anther project is the one of Shkoder-Hani i Hotit railway, a part of which is damaged during the troubles of Spring 1997. For this reason a fund of nearly 2 million dollars will be accorded by World Bank.

    The construction of the water pipeline system for Malesi e Madhe, which will improve the situation of water provision in 87 villages, will start at the beginning of the coming year. The fund allocated by Islamic Bank is 1.4 million dollars.

    While the value offered by PHARE Program on the construction of Hani i Hotit custom is nearly 1,1 million ECU. /lh/linda/

    [13] Stability Pact encourages economies of Balkan countries

    Tirana, September 18 (ata) - By E.Metaj - International Financial Institutions and the Governments of the Western countries are concerned about the political unrest, institutional degradation and slow economic increase in the countries of Southeastern Europe, stated on Saturday in a press conference the director of Albanian Center on Economic Researches Zef Preci.

    According to Mr. Preci, this concern is related with the increasing of the projects dealing with the situation of the first phase of transition, increasing of the cooperation level with political and non governmental organizations and attempts to stimulate integration political steps of particular countries.

    "The project "Competition and Future vision", that has started three years ago includes five stated of our region, Albania, Bulgaria, Rumania, Bosnia-Hercegovina and Macedonia is of this kind", stated Mr. Preci.

    "The ideas of Stability Pact, and the multi and bilateral regional initiatives are characterized by optimist spirit in the political, economic and research institutions and civil association of region countries, as well", said the director of this center.

    Meanwhile, the executive director of the Institute of Contemporary Studies Artan Hoxha spoke about the need of increasing the commercial exchanges between the countries of the region, aiming at EU integration. /linda/
