  • [01] Transparency Commission to release Greek credit for pyramid schemes affected people

    TIRANE, Dec 4(ATA)-The Transparence Commission on Saturday decided to immediately release the Greek credit for the persons remaining homeless after losing their savings in pyramid schemes in Albania.

    This process will begin with providing credit to the first 300 families, which belong to the districts to be credited in cash, the Information Department close to the Council of Ministers told ATA.

    Besides this, for the other families included in the Greek credit a meeting will be held on Monday with the Tirane and Vlore Mayors to accelerate the house building procedures.

    The commission met Saturday to discuss further procedures to be followed to end the transparency process in the pyramid schemes. /dast/lm/

    [02] French Interior Ministry pledges aid for Albanian police

    TIRANE, Dec 4 (ATA)-By E. Londo,

    Albanian Minister of Public Order Spartak Poci met in Paris on Saturday with his French counterpart of the Interior Ministry in France, Jean Pierre Chevenment, who pledged aid in the realisation of a programme for training the Albanian police, sources from the Albanian embassy in Paris told ATA.

    In the year 2000, a special programme for police training will be carried out to train the police, special forces, rapid intervention forces, accompanying this with the respective logistics. In this context, a French mission will come to Albania to programme this aid.

    The two ministers agreed to create a police training structure in the regional framework, to be included in the Stability Pact security issues. /dast/lm/

    [03] Nonstop police operation blocks Italy bound speedboats

    DURRES, Dec 5 (ATA)-By G. Kabashi, Italy bound dinghies and speedboats with illegal emigrants have been blocked for more than 40 hours, sources from Guardia di Finanza told ATA on Sunday.

    A police operation, code-named "Nonstop", which put into motion the border police along the Adriatic and Ionian shore, in cooperation with the Italian-Albanian forces of Guardia di Finanza, has completely blocked illegal emigrants trafficking to Puglia shores.

    According to the same sources, from Thursday, despite favourable weather conditions and the calm sea, only three dinghies and speedboats have attempted to cross the Adriatic. Two of them have fallen into the "net" of police forces, while the third has been turned back without setting sail. /dast/lm/

    [04] Customs officials of Kapshtice suspended

    KAPSHTICE, Dec 4 (ATA)-By G. Ashimi, Six customs officials of Kapshtice, Devoll district, have been suspended, after an order issued by the Customs General director, Petrit Ago, the customs director of Kapshtice, Roland Cane, told ATA.

    After an unexpected control, exercised three days ago by the customs head, himself, an order for suspending six customs officials was issued at the customs point of Kapshtice.

    Cane said that the suspended customs officials are not accused of introducing contraband goods but of careless in carrying out their duty.

    They have violated the order of the director general not to carry out acts after 19.00 each day. On Wednesday they allowed after this hour access of vans, which did not carry goods but household appliances for refugees. /dast/lm/

    [05] WB earmarks $15.5 million to facilitate trade, transport in Albania

    TIRANE, Dec 5 (ATA)-By E. Metaj, The World Bank (WB) has earmarked a $15,5 million project to be implemented in Albania to facilitate trade and transport, in support of the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe.

    A WB delegation, which is visiting Albania, met with Fiance Minister Anastas Angjeli on Saturday and made a brief presentation of the project, which will aim at reducing the trade and transport cost, check contraband and corruption at border crossings and strengthen regional relations and trade.

    The project is worth $15,5 million, of which $10,8 million will be a contribution of the WB, $2,5 million of Albania and the rest will be covered by other donors.

    The project is part of a broad regional programme, which includes Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania and Turkey and is drafted in cooperation with the European Commission and the U.S. Government. /dast/lm/

    [06] NATO membership, priority of Albanian Government

    TIRANE, Dec 5 (ATA)-By E. Koraqi, NATO membership has been and will remain one of the key priorities of the Albanian policy, said Defence Minister Luan Hajdaraga at a meeting of the defence ministers of the NATO members countries in Brussels on December 3.

    "We plan a full and close cooperation with allies and partners, providing our contribution to security in the Balkans, region and broader," he said.

    The meeting, in which the Balkans, especially the NATO action in Kosova, occupied a special place, made an account of the extended operation partnership, the Defence Ministry spokesman told ATA.

    Hajdaraga emphasized the importance of creating the Southeastern Europe Multinational Force, which he considered "a significant initiative for the Balkans' integration into the Eur.-Atlantic structures".

    He reconfirmed the desire of the Albanian government to assume and share responsibilities and advantages of common security and collective defence. /dast/lm/

    [07] Shkodra handicraft products displayed in fair of Thessalonika

    SHKODER, Dec. 5 (ata) - By M Malja: About 12 firms renowned in Shkoder for their handicraft products took part with their products in the international fair of Thessaloniki '99 held in Greece from November 25-30, 1999, the secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of Shkoder, Arben Haveri reports.

    He said that the numerous visitors saw with attention the traditional fair and especially the products made of copper, hay, silver, wood, marble etc.

    According to Haveri, many foreign firms such as Greek, German, Italian, expressed their readiness to cooperate with handicraftsmen of Shkodra such as in the products of silver, hay, marble, etc.

    During this year, the chamber of commerce of Shkodra has taken part in six international fairs with products by Shkodra businessmen and handicraftsmen such as in Damask (Syria), Bari (Italy), Frankfurt (Germany) etc. In these fairs, Shkodra producers have established trade relations with many foreign businessmen. /lh/xh/

    [08] Infrastructure in district of Shkodra rehabilitated with FSHZH funds

    SHKODER, Dec. 5 (ata) - By M Malja: Infrastructure in the commune of Dajc of district of Shkodra is improving further with investments from the Albanian Development Fund (FSHZH) said on Sunday, Valentin Palaj, chairman of this commune.

    He added that with 13 million lek by the FSHZH, they could rehabilitate the Mali i Gjymit-Dajc road, 3 km long. The work here continued for about two months.

    FSHZH has also financed 20 million lek for two other projects: the rehabilitation of the aqueduct of village Pentar and the Luar-Velipoje road, about 3 km long. The work is envisaged to end within December this year, said Palaj.

    During this year, FSHZH delivered funds also for 8 other rural projects, mostly for the rehabilitation of roads, schools and aqueducts in this district. From 1994 until now, the investments of the FSHZH for Shkodra amount to a total of 1.5 million dollars. /lh/xh/
