    Ratio and distribution of mandates following local elections are as follows: PDSR - Social Democracy Party of Romania - 714 mandates, PD - Democratic Party - 386 mandates - ApR - Alliance for Romania Party - 252 mandates - PNL - National Liberal Party - 212 mandates - independent candidates - 126 mandates - CDR - Romanian Democratic Convention - 125 mandates- PRM - Greater Romania Party - 61 mandates, and other parties that obtained lesser numbers of mandates.

    [02] Statement of the new General Mayor of the city of Bucharest

    General mayor of the city of Bucharest, Traian Basescu, said that he would start by cleaning both the Town Hall and the city of Bucharest once his mandate as general mayor begins at the end of this week, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. He announced he would start war against the Mafia-like structures in the markets of the city and he will have serious discussions with the representatives of the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the development of Bucharest infrastructure, improvement of traffic and building of tunnels. Mr. Basescu said he would abide point by point to his electoral programme agenda and promises and that he would not leave the Town Hall after the general elections in the fall of this year. Basescu added he would ask Local Council members to elect four vice-mayors: two representing PDSR, one representing the Romanian Democratic Convention and one representing the Democratic Party. Mr. Basescu also attacked PDSR saying that while his party, Democratic Party is a truly social democratic party and recognized as such in the international arena, PDSR is only at the level of " perestroika ". Mr. Basescu added that within PDSR, we quote " we find perestroika of Gorbachev which means communism with face-lift".

    [03] PNTCD - Christian Democratic National Peasants Party - about the results of the local elections in Romania

    PNTCD estimates that the victory of the PD candidate Traian Basescu in the race for Bucharest Town Hall is also the result of the fact that he was supported by center-right wing forces. Commenting on the results of the elections Ion Diaconescu who is the leader of PNTCD said that the poor results of the Romanian Democratic Convention in the local elections were due to the dispersion of the votes of the electorate and a result of the participation of PNTCD in the ruling of the country.

    [04] Centers of European studies specialized in integration in the European Union

    The delegation of the European Commission to Bucharest and the European Institute of Romania have announced that centers of studies for integration in the European Union will be set up in the cities of Bucharest,Iasi, Cluj, Timisoara and Galati. It is very important that Romania have extremely good specialists in this period of preparation to adherence to the European Union.

    [05] RADIO ROMANIA is participating in the festival PLAIUL MEU NATAL - MY NATIVE LAND - at Ujgorod, in the Ukraine

    Ujgorod in the Ukraine is hosting the festival of 40 ethnic groups living in this region of Europe as part of which radio and television programmes are presented having a focus on minorities on the theme MY NATIVE LAND. THE ROMANIAN RADIO BROADCASTING CORPORATION is represented by all the regional radio stations of the corporation and by Antena Bucurestilor. Among the messages read out at the opening festivity was also that of the President Director - General of RADIO ROMANIA, Andrei Dimitriu, reports RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI.

    Romania's national football squad defeated England 3 - 2 in the last match of group A and will play in the quarter finals of the European championship the team of Italy on Saturday.

    President Emil Constantinescu is receiving Bu He, vicepresident of the National People's Assembly of the People's Republic of China here in Bucharest, at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace in the afternoon.

    In the evening the President of Romania receives the participants in the Congress of the Romanian Culture all over the world, a manifestation which is taking place at Sinaia, in the mountains, starting tomorrow, for two days.

    Romanian Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu meets with ministers of ministries of the economy and with those of the trade unions in an attempt to try and solve the problems raised by emergency ordinance 58 of this year.

    Petre Roman, Foreign Minister of Romania is receiving today Valeri Chechelashvili, secretary general of the Permanent Secretariate of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization.

    In Athens, opening of the debates of the annual meeting of the defense ministers' deputies of the South Eastern European countries. Romania is represented by Ion Mircea Plingu secretary of state for defense issues.

    A delegation of the European Court of Human Rights led by President Luzius Wildhaber are making an official visit to our country in the interval 21 - 25 June.

    An economic delegation of the Romanian town of Sibiu are in Hanover to visit the EXPO 2000 World Exhibition.

    Under the patronage of the National Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation Bucharest is hosting the international symposium and round table on the theme MANAGEMENT OF KNOWLEDGE IN THE CHEMICAL AND PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES.

    Romanian Atheneum hosts an extraordinary concert with the assistance of the French Institute: namely a recital for two pianos with pianists Dan Grigore and Andrei Vieru as part of a programme with compositions by Franz Schubert, Anatol Vieru, Camille Saint-Saens and Igor Stravinski.

    Romanian dogs at the Milan World Championships represents the two Romanian genuine breeds of dogs: Ciobanesc Mioritic and Ciobanesc Carpatin. The Championships take place in the interval 21 - 25 June and the ten dogs representing the two afore mentioned breeds are there to be homologated.

    [08] Anniversaries and commemorations

    In 1920 birth of the actor of comedy Puiu Calinescu. Puiu died in 1997.

    In 1943 birth of stage manager Andrei Serban, one of the greatest of the world.
