  • [01] Designation of the seven judges who are members of the Central Electoral Bureau

    The Supreme Justice Court of Romania designates today the seven judges who are members of the Central Electoral Bureau. Tomorrow, within 24 hours after the designation which is made by drawing of lots, the seven are electing the President of the Central Electoral Bureau.

    [02] Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu has launched his electoral offer

    At the Bucharest Atheneum, the Prime Minister of Romania, Mugur Isarescu, launched his electoral offer which consists of the constructive analysis and then solutions offered of and to the situation of Romania plus a plan for outlining the future of the country. According to Prime Minister Isarescu the economic policies which have been implemented until now are all wrong.

    Among the political personalities who are supporting his candidacy and have been present at the meeting at the Romanian Atheneum there are Ion Diaconescu, Varujan Vosganian, Victor Ciorbea, Decebal Traian Remes, Nicolae Manolescu and Gabriel Liiceanu.

    [03] Statement of Finance Minister Decebal Traian Remes

    Minister of Finance Decebal Traian Remes said that the normative act regarding the state monopoly on the production of pure alcohol could become operational starting 1 November informs RADIO ROMANIA ACTUALITATI. The Romanian Cabinet Minister voiced his hope that the draft documents are discussed during the Cabinet meeting this week so that in the very near future the State should collect all taxes on pure alcohol.

    According to the same source, Cabinet Minister Remes, the Government of Romania might meet in special session to pass the strategy of privatization of commercial companies included in the PSAL programme.

    [04] Special military ceremony

    The battle colors and some of the battle equipment of Prince Stephen the Great of Moldova who ruled between 1457 - 1504 were exhibited in the Three Colored Flag Square of the town of Iasi. The battle colors and the battle equipment will then be transported on a gun-carriage to several towns of Moldova, to be exhibited in the main squares of those towns.

    [05] Conference of the ministers of education of European countries

    The minister of national education Andrei Marga was elected vicepresident of the conference of education ministers of European countries as part of the session of the same name which is taking place in the town of Cracow. Cabinet Minister Andrei Marga will present a paper at the Conference on the education reform of Romania and our education policy which is directed toward European integration. The session also tackles education reform in the European countries and the measures which are necessary for building European education perimeter in all European countries and the teaching of history with stress on the Holocaust.

    [06] Inauguration of AUSTRIAN HOUSE - Casa Austriei - in the town of Ploiesti

    CASA AUSTRIEI started its activity in the town of Ploiesti having been inaugurated in the presence of the Austrian Ambassador to Romania and of Professor Doctor Andrei Plesu who is the manager of the CONCORDIA FOUNDATION. The AUSTRIAN HOUSE is a shelter for 24 homeless children who are raised in family system under the patronage of the CONCORDIA Foundation and the Austrian Chancellory.

    Debates in the Plenum of the Romanian Senate.

    Prime Minister Mugur Isarescu is participating in the seminar on the theme PROVINCES - NO LESS IMPORTANT THAN THE CAPITAL CITY WITH REGARD TO ECONOMIC INITIATIVE.

    Minister of Culture, Ion Caramitru, is heading the section DEVELOPMENT OF BOOK IN THE EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES STILL IN THE PERIOD OF TRANSITION as part of the colloquim organized by the Council of Europe and the Government Department for Cultural Affairs and Media of Germany which is taking place in Frankfurt on the Main.

    Danube Commission debates in Budapest today the drafts of taking out of the river water the debris of the bridges bombed during the war in Yugoslavia last year. Romania which is represented by the Ambassador of our country to Hungary, Petre Cordos, is ready to participate in this action with machinery, installations and personnel.

    The Home Ministry of Romania launches today the programme of the International Organization for Migration ( OIM ) under the title ASSISTANCE FOR THE VICTIMS OF TRAFFIC OF PERSONS AND THE PREVENTION OF THE SAID TRAFFIC IN ROMANIA.

    The President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Paul Florea, will designate, by drawing of lots, the seven judges who will be members of the Central Electoral Bureau for the elections of 26 November.

    Visit to Bucharest of a delegation of Belgian businessmen; during a seminar the Belgian guests will be presented and they will learn about the economic climate of Romania.

    A delegation of 22 Romanian businessmen members of the Association of Exporters and Importers of Romania are leaving for the Russian Federation with an offer of furniture, knitwear, chemical and metallurgical products and products of the food industry.

    A Romanian delegation is in Sankt Petersburg for the International Tourism Fair INVETEK 2000.

    Thirteeen Romanian trading companies are in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in an attempt to sell Romanian products on those markets.

    The British Council invites all those interested to visit the ceramics and glasswareexhibition organized at the National Theater of Bucharest under the motto DISH OF THE DAY.
