  • [01] Session of the Supreme Council for the Defense of the Country

    The Council for the Defense of the Country passed the individual programme of partnership ROMANIA - NATO for the year 2001 and reccomended the Cabinet to grant necessary support to all institutions have have reponsibility in the domain for implementing programmes in this area. Protection of the Civilians Department was transferred from the Ministry of National Defense to the Home Affairs Ministry.

    [02] The Report of activity of the Government of Romania was presented in the plenum of the Parliament of the country

    The Prime Minister of Romania, Mugur Isarescu, presented the report of activity of the Cabinet for the first 10 months of the year in which highlighted were the main achievements and shortcomings, successes and insuccesses registered. Fiscal system has been simplified and exports increased 24 per cent since the beginning of the year.

    However, inflation is much bigger than 27 per cent and it is estimated to reach close to 40 per cent by the end of the year. The Prime Minister also said that inflation will be lower than last year when the level reached was of 54.8 per cent.

    The PM added that the document worded by the International Monetary Fund in connection with Romania is correct as it is focused on both achievements and insuccesses as well as delays of structural reform.

    [03] Statement of the representative of the International Monetary Fund to Bucharest

    The representative of the IMF to Bucharest, Stephane Cosse said that the issue of the third instalment of the loan to Romania will not be discussed at the November session of the Council of Administration unless an arrangement is reached with the Romanian authorities. Mr. Cosse also said that despite some problems the economic performances of Romania are visible and concluded saying that in as far as the furthering of the accord with the IMF is concerned the door continues to remain open.

    [04] The meeting of the high officials of the Black Sea Cooperation Organization

    Bucharest is hosting the meeting of the high officials of the states members of the Black Sea Cooperation Organization whose aim is to prepare the documents to be adopted on Friday by the Ministerial Council of the Organization. The Economic Agenda of the organization is analysed as well as the programme for the food strategy of the Black Sea region, a number of projects of infrastructure as well as aspects regarding the work of the Bank for Trade and Development, the Council of Businessmen and the Permanent Secretariat of the organization.

    The Ministerial Council of Bucharest will be chaired by the Romanian Foreign Minister Petre Roman who on this occasion will have separate talks with all the guests. Official talks between Petre Roman and the Foreign Minister of Russia, Igor Ivanov are scheduled for Friday.

    [05] Inauguration at Timisoara of the Regional Center for European Information

    The Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Romania, Fokion Fotiadis, attended at Timisoara on Wednesday the inauguration of the Regional Center of European Information as part of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Timisoara.

    On this occasion Mr. Fotiadis said that Timisoara is an example in as far as cooperation is concerned for the public interest of the region. The President of the Delegation of the European Commission also said that Timisoara is very attractive for foreign investors.

    The President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, is awarding a number of personalities living outside the borders of Romania the National Order FAITHFUL SERVICE with the rank of Officer as a token of appreciation for the humanitarian spirit and good work as well as outstanding results in promoting, for ten years, assistance to hospitals and orphanages for handicapped children, in this country.

    The President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, attends the unveiling of the commemorative monument devoted to the visit of Pope John Paul Second to Romania. The ceremony takes place at the residence of the Papal Nuncio to Romania, Monsignor Jean-Claude Perisset today at noon and it is part of the reception organized by the Nuncio on the occasion of the XXII -nd anniversary of His Sanctity Pope John Paul II - nd.

    State Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Petre Roman, receives Mrs. Danuta Hubner, executive secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.

    Press Conferences of the political parties at the International Press Center of Bucharest. Today the following parties are having press conferences: National Alliance, National Liberal Party and Social and Democracy Party of Romania.

    The President of the Social and Democracy Party of Romania, Ion Iliescu, is making a visit to county Buzau today.

    Today, the last day for receiving electoral symbols for the political parties that participate in the electoral race and elections as well as for political alliances and independent candidates.

    A delegation of Romania is participating in Rotterdam at the International Tourism Fair INTERNATIONAL HOLIDAY FAIR SKI HAPP.

    Poznan - Poland is hosting the International Tourism Fair TOUR SALON with the participation of a delegation of this country participating in all the actions of the fair.
