NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BELGRADE - While addressing to the representatives of the Parliament of Serbia, after the adoption of the Declaration on the Agreement between FR Yugoslavia and Republika Srpska (RS), the president of the National Assembly of RS, Dragan Kalinic, assessed that the agreement represents the seed of the numerous specific agreements. SRNA relates the president Kalinic's speech in its entirety: "Five years after the RS was created, and a little more than a year since it has been recognised, the delegation of the RS Parliament officially visited this Serbian Parliament for the first time. As recently as yesterday this was an inconceivable forbidden visit, for, allegedly, it implicated a threatening idea of a great state.

BANJALUKA - The RS vice-president and rector of the Banjaluka University, Dragoljub Mirjanic, and the University's vicerector, Radoslav Grujic, talked in Banjaluka with Gerasimo Soldatus of the "Macedonia - Thesaloniki" University, who chairs the consortium of 13 European Universities, about the inclusion of this University into international projects. The EU, in cooperation with the European Universities Union - of which the Banjaluka University is also a member - and with the universities from the former socialist countries, set off a financial project titled "Tepmus", aimed at the renewal and reconstruction of high education and staff exchange with the European and other countries.

SARAJEVO - The RS member of the Provisional Electoral Commission, Slobodan Kovac, stated that the Commission decided at the session in Sarajevo, to start the voter registration for the local elections in RS and Federation of B-H on May 5, 1997 in the country and abroad, provided that the initially determined fiveweek registration time would be somewhat shorter abroad.

ZVORNIK - The OSCE spokesman, David Foley, announced in Zvornik, that the voter registration in RS and B-H Federation for the up-coming local elections would start in May in 420 centres. At a press conference in Zvornik, Foley rejected any possibility for prolongation the municipal elections despite a Croatian request for the constitution of new municipalities in Federation. He reiterated that the elections, scheduled for September, would be held as planned.

ZVORNIK - The assistant chief of the Zvornik Police, Mane Djuric, stated that 202 identification cards have been issued so far for the Muslims in the villages of Mahala, Jusici and Dugi Do. Djuric specified that 91 identity cards were issued in Jusici, 78 in Mahala and 33 in Dugi Do, which is about 20 per cent of number of adults.

TREBINJE - The Municipal Board of the Serbian Democratic Party (SDS) of Trebinje, ask that the border crossing in Jazina be transferred to a more appropriate location, in order to have all roads along the border under control of the authorised state bodies. At the session, held regarding the March 11 incident which took place near the Jazina border crossing, Board said the authorised RS Commission with the Ministry of Interior should start an inquiry into all circumstances that caused the incident.

DOBOJ - The drawing of candidates for electoral commissions and the establishment of the commissions in Doboj, Modrica, Vukosavlje, Teslic and Petrovo will be carried out on March 11 in the OSCE Office in Doboj.
