NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

BANJALUKA - The president of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic, received Bianka Jagger - who is in a humanitarian mission to RS and the B-H Federation - for discussion on humanitarian matters in the country. The RS Presidential Cabinet announced that Bianka Jagger was especially interested in the present living conditions of a large number of refuges and displaced persons. As the representative of the "War Child" humanitarian agency, Bianka Jagger stated that she wanted to review the situation in the country, in order to provide sufficient amounts of insulin for children patients. "This is my first visit to RS, while I have visited Federation of B-H several times, when I helped children through various humanitarian actions in Tuzla, Sarajevo and Zenica", explained Bianka Jagger to journalists.

SARAJEVO - The Presidency of B-H met in Sarajevo with NATO secretary- general Javier Solana to talk on cooperation between the Presidency and SFOR, the Standing Committee for Military Cooperation and opening of airports for commercial flights and freedom of movement. "We expressed our interest for the opening of the Banjaluka, Tuzla and Mostar airports, but without any conditioning, especially in respect to the Banjaluka airport", stated president Krajisnik, and added that a memorandum, containing illogical political demands, was proposed to be signed by the Council of Ministers and SFOR, but the Serb party insisted upon the signing of an agreement between airport owners and SFOR.

SARAJEVO - The B-H Council of Ministers failed to sign a memorandum on the opening of civil airports in Banjaluka, Tuzla and Mostar, at today's session attended by NATO secretary-general, Javier Solana. The co-president of the Council of Ministers, Boro Bosic, said that the legal status of the three airports differs, because the Banjaluka airport had been the civilian airport owned by the city of Banjaluka before the war, to the contrary of the Mostar and Tuzla airports used exclusively for military purposes, this being especially true for the Tuzla airport owned by the former JNA, i.e. ex-Yugoslavia.

SARAJEVO - The NATO secretary-general Javier Solana stated at a press conference in Sarajevo that the multinational forces and international community would continue supporting the democratic processes in RS and B-H Federation consistently with the Dayton agreement.

SARAJEVO - The RS Ministry of Transport sent a letter to the SFOR Command, saying that an international commission has already inspected the Banjaluka airport and determined that the airport was ready for operation and that was completely staffed.

SARAJEVO - The head of the International Monetary Fund Mission for RS and B- H Federation, Scot Brown, issued a statement on "stand-by" arrangement- supported economic programme, saying that the programme is expected to be finished within next few weeks, since the B-H Parliamentarian Assembly adopted the Quick start Package and initialled the concrete discussion on the programme documents.
