JULY 20 1997 EVENING

NEWS REVIEW, REPUBLIKA SRPSKA

DOBOJ - The president of Republika Srpska (RS) Biljana Plavsic, reiterated, at this evening's rally in Prijedor, that the action she initialled by disbandment of the RS National Assembly was a chance to set things straight in RS. In the city park in Doboj, in front of 5,000 assembled residents, opposition leaders repeated their accusations of the RS leadership, especially RS Government.

SARAJEVO - The Government of Republika Srpska (RS) assessed the statements in which the RS president Biljana Plavsic accused the state institutions of "grey economy" as totally unfounded and as causing a huge damage to RS. Today's Government session mainly concerned the up-coming Donors Conference for the reconstruction in B-H, scheduled to take place in Brussels on July 23 and 24, but the conclusion was also that such accusations represented in fact a call to donors not to allocate funds to RS. Ministers believe that the Donors Conference would ask for additional commitments from RS in exchange for financial aid.

SARAJEVO - The RS prime mistier, Gojko Klickovic assessed that the pressure, accompanying the RS delegation at the Donors Conference in Brussels would a direct product of unfounded accusations uttered by the RS president on account of state institutions. "It is illogical to speak of ways of RS participation at the Donors Conference, and in the same time to criminalise the whole state", stated Klickovic after the Government session.

BIJELJINA - A joint meeting was held between RS defence minister Milan Ninkovic, interior minister, Dragan Kijac and the head of the RS Army General Staff, Pero Colic, on security and defence related issues. The conclusion from the meeting held in Bijeljina is that "based upon the role stipulating from the RS Constitution and the platform on which RS is established, the armed forces will consistently defend the Serbian people, independence, territorial integrity and Constitution of RS."

HAMBURG - The German paper "Welt Am Sontag" quotes an international observer in RS that "latest SFOR actions and attempts to arrest Radovan Karadzic provoked a great concern among the Serbian people, which support their former president. By this display of force, SFOR obviously continues the policy of an active hunt for war crimes indictees", assesses the paper.

PRIJEDOR - The president of the Prijedor Municipal Board of the National Radical Party "Nikola Pasic", Goran Zmijanac, said that the murder of the former Prijedor police chief Simo Drljaca represented a classical terrorist act. "There is no legal grounds for such an act, which proves that the operations of the Hague Tribunal are based on principles which no legal order in the world can recognise", stated Zmijanac in an interview for the Dutch TV.

BANJALUKA - The public burning of the state daily paper "Glas Srpski" in front of the residence of the RS president in Banjaluka, on July 19, was mere an act of vandalism, assessed the "Glas Srpski" editorial.
