BANJA LUKA - The president of Republika Srpska /RS/ Biljana Plavsic expressed her optimism in Banja Luka expecting that the new 1998 year will represent the great turning point in economic, political and all-inclusive progress and prosperity of people in RS. In the special New Year's statement for SRNA president Plavsic assessed that during the year which is expiring "the relations were developed in the real and tolerant frameworks and in accordance with Dayton Agreement".

SARAJEVO - The presiding of the Presidency of Serbian Democratic Party /SDS/ Aleksa Buha assessed in Pale as untenable the concept of Mladen Ivanic according to which the new government would be comprised of two parts and operate on the unique platform. "That is combination of incompatible elements" - said Buha at the press conference and expressed his conviction that such government can not be operational. According to that concept, the Cabinet would, from current 21, be reduced on 18 ministerial posts> nine would belong to political parties, and the rest of nine to "professionals".

BANJA LUKA - The president of the Party of Independent Social-Democrats /SNSD/ Milorad Dodik stated in Banja Luka that the inaugural session of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska /NARS/ in Bijeljina did not succeed because of obstruction of the delegates from SDS and Serbian Radical Party /SRS/. "The delegates of cited parties were dragging out with inauguration of RS Parliament", explained Dodik at the press conference in Banja Luka and added that SDS and SRS must accept the compromise.

PODGORICA - The president of Monte Negro Momir Bulatovic stated in Podgorica that he regrets because the forces in NSRS are not consolidated yet and found acceptable compromise which could help in overcoming the existing crisis. At the press conference Bulatovic announced that he personally tried in last days, on the basis of familiarity and influence to help in overcoming crisis in NSRS.

BELGRADE - The member of Federal committee for gathering data about performed crimes against humanity and international law the judge Ilija Simic claims that during past war the greatest number of murdering Serbs in Sarajevo happened with knowledge of the top Moslem authorities. "Serbs were killed and tortured and during digging trenches and tunnels. In that most outstanding were the leaders of Moslem military formations and groups Jusuf Prazina, Samir Kafedzic - Krusko, Ismet Hadzic, Ramiz Delalic - Celo and others", stated Simic in an interview for SRNA.

BRCKO - The candidate of Social-Democratic Party of B&H Mirsad Djapo, by the order of international supervisor Robert Farrand appointed for the president of the Municipal Assembly /SO/ of Brcko. During the third continuation of the inaugural session of the municipal parliament, Farrand, according to the order on multi-ethnical administration, for the vice- president of SO appointed the candidate of Socialistic Party of RS /SPRS/ Bogdan Savija, while the new secretary of SO is Mato Jurisic the member of the Croatian Democratic Union of B&H.

VUKOVAR - The member of the Joint Council of Municipalities /JCM/ assessed that the security situation in Srem-Baranja region is disturbing. During the discussion at the session in Vukovar, attended also by the Transitional Administrator of UN William Walker, chief of Monitoring Mission of OSCE in Croatia Tim Gouldiman and president of Independent Democratic Serbian Party Vojislav Stanimirovic, pointed out the necessity of applying the law on amnesty and con-validation, and the defining the status of JCM.
