[02] Norwegian Deputy FM - Meetings

Nicosia, Feb 10 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides received here today Norwegian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aslaug Haga.

After the Presidential Palace meeting the Norwegian official had talks with the island's Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides.

No statements were made after the two meetings. She also visited the cease-fire line in the walled-city, accompanied by Nicosia Mayor, Lellos Demetriades.

Yesterday, Haga crossed into the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus where she had a meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash.

During her talks on the island, the Norwegian official focused on efforts to resume contacts between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities separated since the 1974 Turkish invasion.

Denktash has repeatedly blocked rapprochement efforts between the two communities.

Haga leaves this afternoon after paying a four-day visit to Cyprus.
