    [01] Popular Bank Group - Fidelity Investments - Funds

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- The Popular Bank Group, Cyprus' second-largest financial institution, has announced the introduction of two new global sector funds in cooperation with Fidelity Investments.

    Popular Bank Group Chairman Kikis Lazarides announced the launch in a joint press conference today with Fidelity Investments' Executive Director Martin Cambridge.

    [02] US Ambassador - Cyprus problem

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- The US Ambassador agrees with Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides' view that the UN Secretary General will, by the end of this month, send invitations to the two sides on the island for direct talks in New York.

    Replying to questions today, US Ambassador to Cyprus Donald Bandler reminded that the US is a member of the Group of Eight (G8) which "has called for comprehensive negotiations in New York for the period ahead and has asked the UN Secretary General to convene these talks".

    [03] Minister of Communications - US Ambassador

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- Minister of Communications and Works Averof Neophytou and US Ambassador to Cyprus Donald Bandler discussed today issues concerning telecommunications and public works as well as the Minister's trip to the US later this year.

    Speaking after the meeting, Neophytou said that what was a courtesy call developed into a substantial meeting and thanked the US Ambassador for his willingness to assist his contacts with the relevant American ministries during his scheduled trip to the US.

    [04] Cyprus - Malta - Tourism Minister

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis and Maltese Tourism Minister M.A. Refalo exchanged views today on their countries' course of accession to the European Union (EU) as well as issues concerning tourism.

    Refalo, who is on an official visit to the island at the invitation of Rolandis, said there was "complete agreement on all the issues discussed".

    [05] President Clerides - President Stefanopoulos

    Athens, Sep 13 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides met in Athens today with his Greek counterpart, Costis Stefanopoulos, who expressed his country's gratitude for the help Cyprus offered to Greece after the earthquake that hit Athens.

    Clerides assured that Cyprus would send "more help" to Greece, while Greek Ambassador to Cyprus, Kyriacos Rodousakis, said that help arrives at the Embassy in Nicosia every day.
