[01] US - Cyprus question
Washington, Oct 27 (CNA) -- The Cyprus question will be an "important part"
of the US President's visit to Athens and Ankara and Bill Clinton will deal
directly with the situation in the island, White House spokesman Joe
Lockhart told his briefing.
The US has made clear to the Turkish leadership, including the
military, that it must drop its preconditions and return to the negotiating
table, according to a prominent Greek American organisation that quotes a
letter by the US Secretary of Defence to two members of the Senate Armed
Services Committee.

[02] Declaration - Committee - Council of Europe
Nicosia, Oct 27 (CNA) -- The Economic Affairs and Development Committee of
the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly has called on all
participants in the Stability Pact for the region and more particularly its
so-called "Economic Table", urgently to improve coordination among the
various organisations and programmes involved.
The appeal was included in a declaration approved at the end of a
seminar on "Economic reconstruction and development in southeastern Europe
following the Kosovo conflict" within the framework of a meeting of this
Committee held in the island's southern coastal town of Limassol.

[03] President Clerides - European Parachutists
Nicosia, Oct, 27 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides received today the
members of the Union of European Parachutists (UEP) who are participating
in the Conference of the Union taking place in Nicosia between October 25 -
31.
Receiving the UEP shield offered to him, President Clerides said that
he himself is a World War II veteran and recalled the incident when he had
used his parachute to save his life when his airplane was shot down by a
German anti-aircraft over Hamburg in 1942.
