Nicosia, Jan 17 (CNA) -- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today
awarded President Glafcos Clerides with a copper sculpture of two open
doors, symbolising peace and victory, the basic philosophy of Olympic
spirit.
"The peoples of the world are called upon to enter the 21st century
through these doors," Cyprus Olympic Committee President Kikis Lazarides
told the press after the award ceremony at the Presidential Palace.

[02] House President - Clinic - Heart surgery
Nicosia, Jan 17 (CNA) -- Cyprus House of Representatives President Spyros
Kyprianou has arrived in the US and will be admitted to the Cleveland
Clinic Foundation later today to undergo examinations before a heart
surgery.
In the next 48 hours preparations will begin for Kyprianou's surgery
on the mistral valve expected to take place either on Wednesday or Thursday,
a spokesman for the House President's centre-right DIKO party told CNA.
