    [01] Commerce Minister - Visit to the US

    Nicosia, Feb 27 (CNA) - Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis leaves for the US today, heading a delegation, for meetings aiming at promoting the high technology field as well as tourism to the island. He will visit New York for meetings and Boston to attend a seminar organised by his Ministry in cooperation with the Cypriot Scientists Network.

    [02] AKEL - Turkish Cypriot party

    Larnaca, Feb 27 (CNA) - Left-wing AKEL Parliamentary Spokesman, Andreas Christou, commenting on statements by Turkish Foreign Minister, Ismail Cem, said today that Cyprus is obliged to comply with European decisions, regarding the so-called embargo against Turkish Cypriot produce. Meanwhile General Secretary of the Turkish Cypriot Patriotic Unity Movement, Izzet Izcan, said that "we were told" Cem visited the Turkish occupied northern third of the island to discuss the Cyprus problem and the forthcoming third round of peace talks.     [03] AKEL - Turkish Cypriot Unity Movement - British Bases

    Larnaca, Feb 27 (CNA) - General Secretary of the Turkish Cypriot Patriotic Unity Movement, Izzet Izcan, today expressed support for the demilitarisation of the island, which he said should include the British Bases. Speaking on the sidelines of a bicommunal event, organised by his Movement and left-wing Greek Cypriot AKEL party, Izcan said "we do not need an army on this island" and the two communities should be guarantors of each other, while AKEL Parliamentary Spokesman, Andreas Christou, urged the government to demand the termination of alleged espionage activities by the British Bases, if it actually opposes them.     [04] Pyla - Bicommunal event

    Larnaca, Feb 27 (CNA) - Greek and Turkish Cypriots met today in the village of Pyla in the Larnaca district, during an event organised by left-wing AKEL and the Turkish Cypriot Patriotic Unity Movement within the framework of their efforts to promote rapprochement and build confidence between the two communities on the island. Talking to the press, AKEL Parliamentary Spokesman and the General Secretary of the Movement, Andreas Christou and Izzet Izcan respectively, expressed hope that a federal solution would be achieved on the Cyprus problem.
