    [01] Miss Universe - Miss India - Golden Apple

    By Demetra Molyva Nicosia, May 14 (CNA) -- Miss Universe 2000, Miss India Lara Dutta, last night was presented with a reproduction of the Greek Mythology golden apple given to Aphrodite in Cyprus in 1000 BC, at the Coronation Ball held here.

    At a special farewell ceremony at the Hilton hotel, in the capital Nicosia, the 21-year-old economist and daughter of a pilot was presented with the golden apple, designed by Mykimoto with a cultured pearl on its stem.

    [02] Cyprus - Eurovision song contest

    Nicosia, May 14 (CNA) -- Cyprus ranked 21st in the first Eurovision song contest of the new millennium, with eight votes.

    Denmark won first place after garnering 195 votes with the song "Fly on the Wings of Love" sang by the folksy middle-aged Olsen Brothers. Russia's 16- year- old singer Alsou followed with 136 votes.

    [03] Cyprus - Football

    Nicosia, May 14 (CNA) - Omonia Nicosia won the Cyprus Football Cup title beating Apoel Nicosia with 4 - 2 at a match held last night at the new GSP stadium, in the capital.

    Omonia and Apoel will represent Cyprus in the UEFA Cup.

    Champion Anorthosis, a refugee football club from the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta, will represent Cyprus in the European Championship Cup.

    [04] Russia - Cyprus problem - Tchizhov interview

    Moscow, May 14 (CNA) -- Russia remains active in the Cyprus question and has both the will and the obligation as a permanent member of the UN Security Council to keep the issue alive in the UN, Moscow's former envoy for Cyprus Vladimir Tchizhov told CNA, expressing support to a federal solution on the island as stipulated for in numerous resolutions.

    In an interview with two CNA journalists visiting Russia at the invitation of the ITAR TASS news agency, Tchizhov said the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot side have elaborated on their positions in the first two rounds of proximity talks held so far and Moscow expects "to hear something more" from the third round.

    [05] New Horizons Party - Congress

    Nicosia, May 14 (CNA) -- Nicos Koutsou is expected to be re-elected today unopposed as President of the New Horizons party, during the party second congress taking place in Nicosia.

    All other high-ranking party officials are also to remain in their positions, as only the post of general organisation issues secretary is being contested.
