    [02] Spokesman - Property - Peace talks

Nicosia, May 16 (CNA) -- The government has made it absolutely clear that it has no intention of legalising in any way the fait accompli the 1974 Turkish invasion created and stressed that it rejects any discussion on the exchange of properties, between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides.

"We shall go to the talks to discuss the substance of the solution, the parametres of a settlement and the return of the refugees," Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today, pointing out that "we are not going to talks to discuss exchange of properties."

[05] Britain - Cyprus - Foreign Ministers - Cyprus question

London, May 16 (CNA) - British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook believes that efforts to reach a settlement in Cyprus are now carried out in a more favourable climate, because of the international community's determination, the European Union dimension and the improved relations between Greece and Turkey.

Speaking after a meeting in London with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides, Cook expressed support to the UN-led Cyprus talks, noting they should proceed without preconditions and aim at restoring the Republic's single sovereignty. He also expressed admiration with the way Cyprus is proceeding in its EU membership talks.
