Nicosia, Jun 14 (CNA) - Cyprus and Malta are set to sign a three-year
cooperation programme on decentralisation, local administration and social
services in Autumn when Maltese Minister of Justice and Local
Administration Austin Gatt visits Cyprus, at the invitation of Cyprus
Interior Minister Christodoulos Christodoulou.
Christodoulou, currently visiting Malta, and Gatt have agreed on a
memorandum of cooperation which puts in place the framework for the
agreement.

[02] Cyprus Commerce Minister - Iran -
Nicosia, Jun 14 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Iran have signed an agreement to boost
tourist links and said they would work towards increased ties in industry,
trade and culture, including the sale of oil products to Cyprus.
Nicos Rolandis, Cyprus' Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister, returned
today from a three-day official visit to Iran, where he met President Seyed
Mohammed Khatami and the Ministers of Commerce Mohammad Shariatmadari, Oil
Bijan Namdar Zanga and Culture Ataollah Mohajerani.

[03] President - Syria - Book of Condolences
Nicosia, Jun 14 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides signed here
today the book of condolences, the Syrian embassy opened following the
death of the late Syrian President Hafez al Assad, expressing sympathy at
the sorrow of the people of Syria.
"With profound sorrow and deep respect, the people of the Republic of
Cyprus, the government and myself mourn the death of the late President of
Syria, a great President and a fine friend of Cyprus," President Clerides
wrote in the book.

[04] Cyprus Foreign Minister - EU - IGC
Nicosia, Jun 14 (CNA) -- Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has assured
the European Union that Cyprus will continue to work hard to align its
legislation with the acquis communautaire and introduce such institutions
as to ensure effectively implementation of the acquis in time for the
country's anticipated accession.
On the political front, the minister said the Greek Cypriot side will go to
the July UN-led talks with the necessary political will to achieve real
progress towards a comprehensive settlement and called on all interested
parties to encourage the Turkish side to show goodwill and cooperation at
the talks.

[05] Cyprus - Angola - Ties
Nicosia, Jun 14 (CNA) - Cyprus and Angola have signed a protocol to
establish diplomatic ties, with a view to develop economic links and
cooperation at international fora.
The protocol was signed by the Republic's Permanent Representative to the
UN, Ambassador Sotos Zackheos, and Angola's Ambassador to the UN Jose
Goncalves Martins Patricio.
