    1705:CYPRESS:03 Cyprus problem - Political leaders - British envoy by Myria Antoniades Geneva, Jul 25 (CNA) -- Britain's envoy for Cyprus Sir David Hannay, who has been closely following the UN-led talks for a settelement on the island since they opened last December, has been meeting in Geneva with political party leaders accompanying President Glafcos Clerides, listening to their views and putting forward his own ideas.

    Today the British diplomat met ruling-wing DISI President Nicos Anastasiades and will later meet General-Secretary of leading opposition AKEL Demetres Christofias, while tomorrow he is scheduled to meet the Social Democrats' party leader Vassos Lyssarides and United Democrats President George Vassiliou.

    [04] Cyprus Stock Exchange - Share prices

    Nicosia, July 25 (CNA) - The Cyprus Stock Exchange fell today by 4,92 percent as share prices crashed for the second session running.

    The market has slid by more than 9 percent, in the past two days and traders say that the situation is out of control. CNA/RM/MCH/2000

    2100:CYPRESS:05 President Clerides - UN Special Adviser by Myria Antoniades Geneva, Jul 25 (CNA) -- The UN Secretary General's special advisor for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto is evaluating the positions given to him by the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cyprio sides, engaged in a new round of proximity talks in Geneva that opened on Monday.

    De Soto has asked to see President Glafcos Clerides at his hotel here late this afternoon, after having a three and a half hour-long meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash in the morning.

    [06] AKEL General Secretary - British envoy

    by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Jul 25 (CNA) -- Leading opposition AKEL leader Demetris Christofias said the effort of the international community at the present stage concentrates on continuying proximity talks on Cyprus until a fresh round in September, but he did not appear very hopeful.

    Replying to questions after a meeting, here, today with British envoy for Cyprus, Christofias said he was given the chance to repeat and stress to Sir David Hannay that a Cyprus settlement should be based on the principles of a single state, a single sovereignty and nationality and one international personality and take into consideration security concerns of the two sides.

    [07] Attorney General - Loizidou case - Resolution

    by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, 25 Jul (CNA) -- Attorney General Alecos Markides described today a resolution adopted by the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers on the Titina Loizidou case as "a serious procedural step in the right direction" and expressed satisfaction for the fact that the decision was not postponed because of on-going proximity talks on Cyprus.

    Speaking in Geneva, where he is participating in the Cyprus team in UN-led proximity talks, Markides said the Council has no other alternative but to insist on the implementation of the decision, adding that "we should be patient and persistent".

    [08] Government Spokesman - Proximity Talks

    by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Jul 25 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou tonight categorically denied a TV report claiming that Cyprus peace talks that resumed here, Monday, hit a snag.

    He said proximity talks are continuing as scheduled and he expects a discussion on the views put forward by President Glafcos Clerides on UN ideas will begin on Thursday.
