    [01] New Israeli Ambassador - Credentials

    Nicosia, Oct 13 (CNA) - Israel's new Ambassador to Cyprus, Michael Eligal, said today that "peace and stability in the eastern Mediterranean will, without a doubt, have positive repercussions for Cyprus and bring the coveted harmony and prosperity so desired in the region".

    Presenting his credentials to President Glafcos Clerides, Eligal reiterated his country's supports "to all international efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to your island's national problem" and expressed Israel's hope "that through continued dialogue this goal will be achieved for the benefit of all the people of Cyprus".     [02] Cyprus - Military exercise

    Nicosia, Oct 13 (CNA) -- The annual National Guard military exercise code- named "Nikiforos" (Winner), taking place October 17 to 21, will be different and upgraded, army chief Lieutenant-General Evangelos Florakis said today, adding that Greek military planes will be taking part.

    He also said Greek Defence Minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos and Chief of General Staff Manousos Paragioudakis will be on the island to watch part of the exercise on October 20.
