Belgian State Secretary - Spokesman - Statement

Nicosia, Jan 20 (CNA) -- The Belgian government stressed today it sees the Republic of Cyprus as a single, sovereign state and recognizes, in line with the UN position, the equal status of the parties in a future united Cyprus.

Brussels also expressed its full commitment to the UN peace process on Cyprus and to the European Union Helsinki principles, which do not consider a settlement of the Cyprus question a precondition to the Republic's accession to the EU.
