    [01] Cyprus - Yugoslavia

    Nicosia, Mar 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Yugoslavia will work together in the coming months to establish whether funds amounting to billions of dollars belonging to the Yugoslav people were chanelled through Cyprus and are deposited in local accounts, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and the Governor of the Central Bank of Yugoslavia Mladjen Dinkic said here today, after a lengthy meeting.

    Dinkic has handed the government specific evidence about "illegal activities", account numbers and offshore companies belonging to Yugoslavs and said Cyprus is the first country which undertook the concrete step of cooperating, noting that other countries, such as Switzerland, Germany, England, South Africa and China, were used by the Yugoslav regime as a transit point.

    [02] President Clerides - Athens

    Nicosia, Mar 13 (N) -- President Glafcos Clerides leaves for Athens on 2 May for a two-day official visit at the invitation of his Greek counterpart Costis Stefanopoulos, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou announced here today.

    The spokesman added that the President's visit to Athens aims at further strengthening the already excellent relations between Cyprus and Greece and dismissed suggestions that the visit is in any way connected to the upcoming parliamentary elections in May. CNA/MA/RM/MM/2001

    [03] Spokesman - US - Yugoslavia

    Nicosia, Mar 13 (CNA) -- The US has welcomed the cooperation between Cyprus and Yugoslavia and between Nicosia and the International Tribunal in the effort to stop the flow of Yugoslav assets through the island, noting that the Cypriot government has taken steps to that effect.

    Cyprus Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said it was important that the US recognizes the government's full cooperation with Yugoslavia and the International Tribunal for investigations into allegations of illegal transfer of funds out of Yugoslavia.

    [04] Greek Foreign Minister - Paphos

    Paphos, Mar 13 (CNA) -- Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou became an honorary citizen of the western coastal town of Paphos, at a ceremony where he received the town's "golden key".

    Papandreou, who concludes tonight a three-day visit to the island, is touring Paphos and Limassol district today to see the countryside and meet the locals.

    [05] Maltese Foreign Minister - Visit

    Nicosia, Mar 13 (CNA) -- The Foreign Minister of Malta Joseph Borg arrives here Wednesday on a three-day visit to Cyprus, during which he will be received by President Glafcos Clerides and have talks with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides.

    Borg will also meet Acting President of the House Nicos Anastasiades and chief negotiator with the European Union George Vassiliou.

    [06] House President - Russia - Talks

    Nicosia, Mar 13 (CNA) -- A proposal for the establishment of a joint permanent Parliamentary Committee between Cyprus and Russia aiming to promote the Cyprus question on an international scale, will be discussed tomorrow by Cyprus' parliamentary delegation, headed by House President Spyros Kyprianou, and Chairman of the Federation Council (Upper Chamber of the Federal Assembly) Yegor Stroyev.

    According to sources from the Russian capital, tomorrow Kyprianou, who is in Moscow, on a four-day official visit at the invitation of Duma's Chairman Gennadii Seleznev, will meet with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasanov to discuss recent developments in the Cyprus issue and bilateral relations.     [07] Communications Minister - Dublin

    Nicosia, Mar 13 (CNA) -- Issues relating to communications, postal services, air transport and airport development were discussed during a meeting in Dublin between Cyprus Minister of Communications and Works Averof Neophytou and Irish Minister of Public Enterprise Mary O' Rourke.

    According to an official press release, Neophytou, who is on a two-day visit to Ireland and O' Rourke also discussed issues relating to liberalisation of telecommunications. CNA/CST/RM/MM/2001

    [08] Greek Foreign Minister - Departure

    Larnaca, Mar 13 (CNA) -- Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou left Cyprus "more optimistic" and "more encouraged" to continue fighting for the prevalence of justice in Cyprus and the achievement of its goal to join the European Union.

    Speaking on his departure for Athens, the minister repeated his call to the Turkish Cypriots to take the necessary decisions to participate in the European integration and become a member of the European family through Cyprus' accession, noting that Europe is also set to gain from Cyprus' EU membership.
