    [01] Cyprus - SDP Delegation - Meetings

    Nicosia, Mar 19 (CNA) -- The Cyprus question and the Republic's European Union (EU) accession course were discussed during separate meetings a German Social Democratic Party (SDP) parliamentary delegation had here today with President Glafcos Clerides, government officials and political party leaders.

    Speaking after the meeting with President of the Social Democratic Party Vasos Lyssarides, head of the SDP delegation Gunter Gloser said Cyprus is among the candidate countries that has achieved most progress in their EU accession talks, that got underway in 1998.

    [02] US Ambassador - Cyprus peace effort

    Nicosia, Mar 19 (CNA) -- The US remain engaged in the efforts to find a solution to the Cyprus question, US Ambassador to Cyprus Donald Bandler said here today, adding that the UN officials in charge are continuing to work on the issue.

    Speaking to the press after calling on President Glafcos Clerides, Bandler also said that the international community is actively working towards the continuation of the UN-led proximity talks aiming at finding a solution in Cyprus, divided since Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37 percent of its territory in 1974.     [03] Cyprus Airways - Aeroflot - Agreement

    Nicosia, Mar 19 (CNA) -- Cyprus Airways and Russian national carrier Aeroflot have reached a code sharing agreement providing for more frequent flights between Larnaca and Moscow as well as a single invoice policy, that will come into force as from May 1, the company said in a press release issued here today.

    The agreement was announced during a joint press conference held in Moscow by the company Chairman Haris Loizides and Aeroflot's Director of International Relations Alexei Sidorov, during which Loizides said they are discussing the possibility of furthering cooperation to other fields, also covering the Middle East region.

    [04] Occupied areas - Greek Cypriot - Illegal trial resumes

    Nicosia, Mar 19 (CNA) -- The illegal trial of Greek Cypriot Panicos Tziakourmas resumed today in the areas of Cyprus occupied by Turkey since 1974, after 17 days of recess due to the Holidays of Sacrifices.

    According to United Nations Peace Keeping Forces in Cyprus (UNFICYP) acting Spokesperson Charles Gaulkin during today's session Tziakourmas' British attorney cross - examined a so-called "witness for the prosecution". CNA/RM/MA/2001

    [05] Cyprus - British Bases - Antenna

    Limassol, Mar 19 (CNA) -- Akrotiri British Bases authorities announced today their plans for upgrading their telecommunication installations around the salt lake in the Akrotiri area, west of the coastal town of Limassol.

    Speaking at a press conference, Assistant Area Inspector Nicos Milonas said the antenna will replace those operating until two years ago, while on his part WG Commander Mike Wrigley said it will serve telecommunications purposes only, rejecting claims that it would be used for espionage.
