    [01] Cook - Papandreou - Cyprus question

London, Mar 27 (CNA) - British Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary Robin Cook has made it clear that the illegal regime in the areas of Cyprus occupied by Turkey since 1974 cannot be recognised and called on Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash to face reality and return to the UN-sponsored Cyprus peace talks.

Cook was speaking at a meeting of Cypriots in North Londonlast night, attended also by Turkish Cypriots, along with his Greek counterpart George Papandreou, who said Denktash has two choices: To make history by working towards a just solution or history will pass him by.

    [02] Cyprus - UN - Revised report

Nicosia, Mar 27 (CNA) -- The UN have reissued a report on human rights in Cyprus, rectifying terminology for which the government of the Republic had made strong representations.

The general content of the report, first published on 20 February, has remained intact but there are changes on three different occasions where there is a clear reference to the government of Cyprus and not to Greek Cypriot authorities as the original text said.

[07] President Clerides - New Nigerian ambassador

Nicosia, Mar 27 (CNA) – President Glafcos Clerides expressed "firm belief" that the international community should give no promises to Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash so as "to appease him in order to return to the negotiating table", underlining that "his (Denktash's) return to the negotiating table alone is not enough".

"The Turkish side should demonstrate its will to negotiate for the resolution of the Cyprus problem, with actual deeds and not simply making statements to this end but not following them up," he said, receiving the credentials of the new Nigerian ambassador to Cyprus George Obiozor.
