    [02] President Clerides - New People's Republic of Korea ambassador

    Nicosia, Mar 27 (CNA) - Cyprus and the People's Republic of Korea today pledged to work towards the further development of relations between the two countries, at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace during which Jang Myong Son presented his credentials to President GLafcos Clerides as Korea's new ambassador.

    "Our people are sincerely rejoiced over the achievements made by the Cypriot people under your correct leadership in their efforts to terminate the division, unify the country and achieve the country's demilitarisation and the development of the nation's economy and productivity," the Korean ambassador said.

    [03] Joint EU-Cyprus Committee - Akamas peninsula

    Limassol, Mar 27 (CNA) --European parliamentarians, meeting here with their Cypriot counterparts, have called on the government to take measures with a view to protect the unique beauty of the Akamas peninsula, on the northwestern coast of the island, until it decides on the management of this region.

    Deputies have said the development and the welfare of the communities in Akamas should also be taken into consideration. (CNA/RM/MM)

    [04] Joint Parliamentary Committee ÅU - Cyprus

    Limassol, Mar 27 (CNA) -- The European Union - Cyprus Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) does not accept the fact that Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash withdraw from UN-led proximity talks aiming at reaching a solution to the Cyprus issue, Co-Chairman of the JPC Mechtild Rothe told a press conference here today.

    Speaking at a joint press conference with co-chairman Tasos Papdopoulos, Rothe described the position on Cyprus, as set out in Turkey's national programme for the adoption of the acquis communautaire, as "a provocation" and added that the EU decisions in Helsinki, which states that a solution of the Cyprus question is not a precondition for Cyprus' accession to the EU, "stands".     [05] Strike - National Health Scheme

    Nicosia, Mar 27 (CAN) -- A 24-hour strike on Wednesday by civil servants, bank employees and the Cyprus Electricity Authority is expected to cause disruption.

    There will be no flights in and out of Cyprus from eight in the morning on Wednesday until eight in the morning the following day, with the exception of Cyprus Airways flights to Gatwick and Frankfurt.
