    [01] Cultural heritage - Cyprus - Turkey

Nicosia, Apr 10 (CNA) -- Turkey has indicated for the first time since its troops invaded Cyprus' northern part that it would be willing to do something about the continuing destruction of the island's cultural heritage in the areas it occupies since 1974, Cyprus Interior Minister Christodoulos Christodoulou has said.

"For the first time a senior Turkish government official has said formally and in public that Ankara would be ready to respond to calls from the government of Cyprus, if we supply Turkey with a list of stolen icons and objects from the occupied areas, Christodoulou said on his return from the fifth meeting of European ministers responsible for the cultural heritage, which took place in Slovenia.

    [02] Spokesman - Turkey - European Court

Nicosia, Apr 10 (CNA) -- Turkey is trying to apply tactical manoeuvres to avoid compliance with a decision of the European Court of Human Rights, the government has said, referring to a Turkish proposal in connection with a case of human rights violations in Cyprus by Turkey.

Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said Ankara's proposal with respect to Titina Loizidou's case is totally unacceptable and stressed that the government will not accept anything less than execution of the judgment of the Court.

[04] Austrian Foreign Minister - Cyprus

Larnaca, Apr 10 (CNA) -- A solution of the Cyprus problem prior to the island's accession to the European Union would be excellent, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Austria Benita Ferrero Waldner said here today, pointing out however that in a different case "there will also be a possibility for Cyprus to enter the EU."

Speaking on her arrival in Cyprus for a week-long official visit, Waldner said that Cyprus' accession to the EU is "a window of opportunity" that can be used by both sides (on the island) in the UN-led proximity talks. CNA/MAN/RM/GP/2001

[05] Cyprus Foreign Minister - Return - Statements

Larnaca, Apr 10 (CNA) -- The US administration shares the view of the Cyprus government that the 18 months ahead, before the decision of the European Union concerning Cyprus' accession to the Union, is a period that has to be fully exploited within the framework of the efforts being made for a settlement of the Cyprus problem, Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said here today.

Speaking on his arrival from the United States, where he paid a week-long visit during which he met Secretary of State Colin Powell, Kasoulides said he had realised from his contacts there that the new US administration would not change Washington's policy towards the Cyprus problem.
