    [02] OSCE - Parliamentary Elections

Nicosia, Apr 12 (CNA) -- The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will not be sending observers to monitor May's parliamentary elections following a recommendation by a team of experts who visited the island last month.

Chief Returning Officer George Theodou told CNA today that the OSCE delegation believes that "it is not appropriate nor is it recommended to send observers to Cyprus for polling day."

[03] Abducted Greek Cypriot - UN

Nicosia, Apr 12 (CNA) -- Cyprus has called on the UN to exert its influence on Turkey for the immediate release of a Greek Cypriot contractor, abducted and illegally detained by the Turkish Cypriot occupation regime, in northern occupied Cyprus, in what is widely believed to have been a retaliation move by the regime.

In a letter to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the Republic's permanent representative to the UN Ambassador Sotos Zackheos appealed to Annan to use his influence and authority on Turkey for "the immediate release of Panicos Tziakourmas."
