    [02] Cyprus Rally 2001 - Finish - Three first drivers

    Limassol, Jun 3 (CNA) - British Ford driver Colin McRay is the winner of the three-day Cyprus Rally 2001, which ended today in the coastal town of Limassol.

    After a tough race through each of today's special stages, McRay finished in 5 hours, 7 minutes and 32 seconds, followed by Briton Richard Burns in a Subaru, whose time was 5 hours, 7 minutes and 49 seconds, and last year's Cyprus Rally winner Spaniard Ford driver Carlos Sainz, finishing third in 5 hours, 7 minutes and 59 seconds.     [03] End of Cyprus Rally - Finish - Results

    Limassol, Jun 3 (CNA) - Briton Colin McRae is the winner of the Cyprus Rally 2001 after a strong fight with second Richard Burns of Subaru and last year's winner of the Cyprus Rally Spaniard Carlos Sainz.

    The first three drove a sizzling race all day during the third and last leg of the Cyprus Rally, which for the second time is included in the World Championship.

    McRae's time during today's leg was 5 hours, 7 minutes and 32 seconds, while Burns' was 5 hours, 7 minutes and 49 seconds, and Sainz's ten seconds behind Burns.

    Toshihiro Arai in a Subaru was fourth, followed by Freddy Loix in a Mitsubishi, Pasi Hagstroem in a Toyota, Alistair McRae in a Hyundai, Bruno Thiry in a Skoda, Armin Schwartz in a Skoda and Abdullah Bakhashab in a Toyota.

    With the completion of the Cyprus Rally, the FIA World Rally Championship for drivers is as follows:

    Tomi Makinen 27 points Carlos Sainz 26 Colin McRae 20 Richard Burns 15 Didier Auriol 10 Harri Rovanpera 10 Francois Delecour 9 Freddy Loiz 7 Gilles Panizzi 6 Tomas Ranstrom 6 Toni Gartemeister 4 Marcus Gronholm 4 Armin Schwartz 3 Toshihiro Arai 3 Peter Solberg 3 Alistair McRae 1 Pasi Hagstroem 1

    In the Championship for manufacturers, Ford is in lead with 50 points, followed by Mitsubishi with 47, Subaru with 22, Peugeot with 20, Hyundai with 10 and Skoda with 7.

    During the three-day Cyprus Rally, many of the front-runners retired. Only 30 cars finished the race today out of the 76 that set out on Friday.

    The next FIA World Rally Championship will take place in Greece.
