    [01] Spokesman - Cyprus question - Talks

    Nicosia, Jun 11 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government believes that if and when the UN- peace talks resume, it is highly likely the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides will be presented with a comprehensive proposal on a framework agreement.

    Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today that it must be pointed out to the Turkish Cypriot side that it is necessary not only to return to the negotiating table but to return with the resolve to negotiate seriously with a view to finding a solution.

    [02] House of Representatives - Standing Committees

    Nicosia, Jun 11 (CNA) - Left-wing AKEL and right-wing Democratic Rally (DISI) will each chair six Standing Committees in the newly-elected House of Representatives. The centre-right Democratic Party (DIKO) will chair four, one more than the three it presided over in the previous House and the Movement of Social Democrats (KISOS) one committee, compared to two before the May 27 elections.

    The committee chairmanships were decided during a meeting here today of the eight parliamentary parties, under the presidency of new House President, AKEL General Secretary Demetris Christofias. CNA/NMA/RG/GP/2001

    [05] Agriculture Minister - Greece - Cooperation agreement

    Larnaca, Jun 11 (CNA) - Agriculture Ministers of Cyprus and Greece, Costas Themistocleous and Giorgos Anomeritis, today signed in Athens a two-year cooperation agreement in areas such as agriculture, fisheries, research, forestry, veterinary services and water resources development.

    Speaking on his return to the island from the Greek capital, Themistocleous referred to the benefits Cyprus can have from the Greek experience in European Union issues and said the Republic will start receiving European funds for the agricultural sector.

    1950:YPPRESS:06 Foreign Minister - Ambassadors' meeting Nicosia, Jun 11 (CNA) - Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides presided over a meeting of Cypriot ambassadors based in European Union countries, associated states and international organisations and discussed the strategy followed in the Republic's accession course, the Cyprus problem and a recent European Court of Human Rights decision that found Turkey guilty of human right violations in Cyprus.

    According to an official announcement issued today, Attorney General Alecos Markides and the Republic's chief negotiator in the accession talks that opened in 1998 George Vassiliou were also present at the meeting, held in Brussels over the weekend.

    [07] Cyprus - Health - Commonwealth workshop

    Nicosia, Jun 11 (CNA) – Policy makers from some six Commonwealth members states in the government sectors, supporting agencies and NGO's will begin discussing gender management systems for the health sector over a five-day workshop, beginning tomorrow in Nicosia, that will be opened by Permanent Secretary at the Health Ministry Symeon Matsis.

    The meeting is organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth Medical Association and will bring together senior representatives to increase their skills in gender analysis and planning, to identify and explore key factors which contribute to major gender disparities in health within participating countries and to determine strategies to be used to influence the development of policies and programmes which will improve the health of both women and men.
