    [01] Commerce Minister - Egypt - Natural gas - Economic zone

    Nicosia, Oct 18 (CNA) -- Cyprus Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis leaves tonight for Kairo where he will hold talks on the supply of natural gas to Cyprus from Syria and Egypt, through a submarine pipe from Syria, and the delimitation of the exclusive economic zone between Cyprus and Egypt.

    Tomorrow Rolandis will have a joint meeting in the Egyptian capital with Egypt's Petroleum Minister Sameh Fahmy and Syria's Energy Minister Mohamad Maher Jamal.|

    [02] Cyprus - Slovakia Commerce

    Nicosia, Oct 18 (CNA) -- Trade relations between Cyprus and Slovakia could further develop in the future, Cyprus Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis said here today, noting that Slovakia's contribution to the rapprochement between the two Cypriot communities is "important".

    Speaking to the Press after talks with Slovak First Deputy Minister of Economy Peter Brno, Rolandis said bilateral relations between the two countries could further improve noting that Cyprus and Slovakia are on the same course towards accession to the EU.| CNA/AAR/GP/2001

    [03] Greek Ambassador - EU - Cyprus - Turkey

    Nicosia, Oct 18 (CNA) -- Cyprus should not be held hostage by Turkey as far as its accession to the European Union is concerned, Greek Ambassador to Cyprus Christos Panagopoulos said here today, pointing out that allowing Ankara to have a say on Cyprus' accession, prior to a political settlement, would create a "dangerous precedent" for other candidate countries.

    The Ambassador did not rule out the possibility of seeing EU enlargement blocked by the Greek parliament, if Cyprus is victimized, and stressed that Cyprus accession to the EU would offer security and stability to all Cypriots and would facilitate a solution.

    Nicosia, Oct 18 (CNA) -- The UN Secretary General's strong commitment to promote a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus question is to be regarded as a high priority and not a medium-term objective for the international community, Italy's new Ambassador to Cyprus Gherardo la Francesca said here today, presenting his credentials to Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides.

    Nicosia, Oct 18 (CNA) -- Norway attaches great importance to the efforts to seek a solution to the Cyprus problem and fully supports the efforts of the UN Secretary General to find a negotiated, durable, political solution, Norway's new Ambassador to Cyprus Mona Juul said here today presenting her credentials to Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides.

    Receiving the credentials, President Clerides reaffirmed that the Cyprus Republic will continue its struggle until a just and permanent solution to the Cyprus question is achieved.     Brussels, Oct 18 (CNA) -- EU Commissioner responsible for enlargement Gunter Verheugen has expressed hope that the UN-led process on Cyprus will resume as soon as possible pointing out that a solution to the Cyprus problem would greatly facilitate the development of EU-Turkey relations.

    Speaking today at the inaugural meeting of the EU-Turkey Foundation in Brussels, Verheugen said "Turkey has expressed support" for the UN-led process "but there is strong expectation in the EU that these expressions of support will contribute to concrete actions to facilitate a settlement."     [09] Cyprus - Armenian Deputy Defence Minister - Arrival

    Larnaca, Oct 18 (CNA) -- Armenian Deputy Defence Minister M. Grigoryan said here today that Cyprus and Armenia could cooperate in various fields, and more specifically on military and armament matters.

    Grigoryan who visits the island at the invitation of Cyprus Defence Minister Sokratis Hasikos, to watch part of the National Guard's annual military exercises, which started last Monday said all people around the world should cooperate to prevent any possible new terrorist attacks.
