    New York, Jan 25 (CNA) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and US Secretary of State Colin Powell have discussed the Cyprus peace talks at a recent meeting in Tokyo.

    Cyprus ready to destroy weapons under UN custody since 1972

    Nicosia, Jan 25 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has put forward to the UN peace-keeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) a proposal to have destroyed weapons which have been under UN custody since 1972, following an agreement between the Republic and UNFICYP.

    The government proposed the start of a dialogue on ways these small arms can be destroyed. Initial reaction from UNFICYP has been positive.
