Papariga was speaking to the press after meeting the President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides who wrapps up today his three-day visit to Athens, where yesterday he met the Greek Premier Costas Simitis, the Greek President Costis Stephanopoulos and other political party leaders.

Cyprus EU membership not questioned by Austria, Fischer says

Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) Cyprus' EU membership is not questioned by Austria, President of the Austrian National Council Heinz Fischer, who is paying an official visit on the island, stressed here today.

Speaking after a meeting with Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, Fischer expressed the view that the Irish people will vote today for the ratification of the EU Nice Treaty.

''I believe there will be a positive result as the Irish government was much better prepared this time. It will go well,'' he added.

Referring to Cyprus EU membership Fischer said that "it is on a good track and it will be a reality according to a time schedule."

Kasoulides said that during his meeting with the President of the Austrian National Council there was a very useful exchange of views on a series of issues ''concerning first of all Cyprus and its efforts, in the past few months before the decision of the Copenhagen European Council.''
