    New York, Mar 30 (CNA) -- Cyprus' Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Sotos Zakheos appeared optimistic on Saturday that a UN report on the latest peace process to find a comprehensive settlement would be objective.

    Britain deplores "arrests" in occupied Cyprus

    London, Mar 30 (CNA) -- Britain has expressed concern about this week's "arrests" of six Turkish Cypriots, including a party leader and prominent trade unionists, in Turkish occupied Cyprus, as they staged a symbolic referendum on a UN peace proposal.

    Spokesman responds to Turkish statements

    Nicosia, Mar 30 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Kypros Chrisostomides said today that Turkey's policies on Cyprus and those of Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash cannot lead anywhere because they are based on a distorted assessment of the political realities of today.

    The spokesman was commenting on statements from Ankara's powerful National Security Council expressing full support for Denktash's intransigent positions on UN-led efforts to find a settlement.
